New York Fishing Reports

A “Real” Report Huntington Porgies

From time to time I will post reports here and they will not just be "advertisements" as they will contain real information that will assist other fisher persons to improve their catch. They may even burn some spots. I would encourage other Charter and Party Boat’s to do the same so that the fishing community can benefit and just not say "we caught fish so come fish with us." That being said, The Juan Hernandez party today caught about 60 Porgies (sorry, we lost count) up to 3 lbs. Photos will show our bunker cutting knife for size perspective.
High hook was Antonio Hernandez who at age 14 caught the most and the biggest fish. Now for more information. Few fish were caught "outside" the bay area. Fish were picky until the incoming tide started and then they bit actively. Winds were northwest. Fish were caught in about 20-30 feet of water on structure in the bay. If you know of rock piles or wrecks in the bay, fish these spots and chum heavily. Drifting the area between Target Rock and the Lloyd Harbor entrance also proved productive. We experimented with Gulp Alive spray scent and sprayed the clam baits with their shrimp odorant. Spraying seemed to produce slightly better results than non sprayed baits but the jury is still out on that. Only a few fish were caught at Valley Grove, very few at Caumsette and inside the six. It seems the the closer in we got, the better the bite. So here ar some photos for your viewing pleasure. Wishing you all tight lines.
PS. Fluking last week using pink Gulp Mullet out produced squid and spearing BY FAR.
