But George, fluke grow fast. Shouldn't those plentiful 17" and 18" fish we were catching last spring be keepers this year? The draggers can't be netting them all.

The amount of bait and short fish in this area is crazy. Why do we keep seeing these short fish early year after year? This spring scenario has been ongoing for over 10 years. I am sure the draggers are taking their toll, but shouldn't some nice fish make it through? Do these fish abandon this...
I fished Sunken Meadow in the big blow Saturday morning by myself. Fun but frustrating fishing. I stopped counting at 25+ fish, with only one 19" keeper. They were all over a small white bucktail with a Pink Shine teaser above.

Most in the Huntington area are familiar with his reputation. I have never had a problem with him, but many of my friends have. Tog season brings the most trouble. We pass each other in the inlet often, and I will get an occasional nod. I have drifted near him while fluking hundreds of times...
So I agree with boxing one fish over 26-28" with no slot. That is a no-brainer to me. This will save many fish. The one keeper and you put your rod down? Hmmm.....not sure this will work especially for a charter group. Say you have a four to six-man charter bucktailing the Gut. One happy angler...
They should win many games and vie for the AFC East title as long as number 8 stays healthy. Their defense should keep them in every game Reddick or no Reddick. Still, in the AFC, you need to be better than teams like Kansas City, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Buffalo, and Baltimore to name a few.
A consistent bite has developed for me off Lloyd Point in the last few weeks. Another limit this morning with many throwbacks. No monsters as the biggest was 22". It happens at the very beginning or the very end of the ebb. After that, the shorties take over. A bucktail with a dark 6" gulp grub...
My faith in the North Shore fishery has returned!! After picking a keeper fish here and there for the last month I limited out in the last hour of the ebb off Lloyd Point this evening. Three fat 21" clones liked my bucktail with gulp and gulp teaser. Two other keepers and about 6 shorts went...
Having a tough time culling through all the shorts here on the north side. Fished the Golf course to Asharoken this morning. Plenty of action but nothing for the box. Gulp sand eels were can't miss. Fished a few of my deep drops for the same result. The amount of bait in the water is crazy. I...
I also owned a Good windlass. In 2002, when I realized that my dream boat, a used 26 Fortier, was out of my price range, I was lucky enough to find a 1999 Shamrock Mackinaw that I could afford. Soon after owning her, I came upon the Shamrock Owners Group website. Two members, The Leprechaun and...
As an older and very long-suffering Jets fan, I was on the fence about getting Rodgers. After it happened I was all in thinking they could make the playoffs and maybe win a couple of rounds. Hmmmm........same old, same old. So here we are with the draft approaching. I wonder how much influence...
Of course, the NFL picked the Jets. The Jets training camp is going to be a shit show with Rogers on the team now. Twice as many reporters as usual. Rogers will handle it with no problem. Let's hope the rest of the team does as well. I don't think you can refuse Hard Knocks unless you have a...
I want to thank Mike again for a nice day on the water. Eileen, Madeline, Bill, and I enjoyed Mike's company. He is a great captain that knows his stuff. His rig is a pleasure to fish from. Although the fluking was a little slow bucktailing the Gut ended the day on a high note. Thanks Mike...
Fished small bucktails and teasers with gulp at Crab Meadow for 7 fish, one keeper and plenty of birds. With an hour left in the ebb I tried a summer fluke spot near the OB. No fluke there but about 3/4 mile S/E of the OB I found huge pods of bass in 50' of water. The flutter spoons did their...
Picked 11 slot fish this afternoon on the Flutter spoons again. Had to work for them as they were not stacked up tight like they were on Wednesday. I found a few here and a few there. I believe this group is headed east. These spoons are such an enjoyable way to fish.
