So after many years of procrastinating my wife and I are going to file for pistol permits. Target practice and home security are our goals. We presently own a 410 shotgun and three 22 rifles so we are not new to guns ownership. We hear this process can take over 6 months to complete. Looking for...
A buddy of mine knows the angler who caught it. I was shown a picture of this hog with the Huntington Lighthouse in the back ground. Huge fish. She was a bleeder or they would have set her free.

I am with boatguy. I feel the bottom of the sound is why we have lost the fluke, flounder, and lobster. These species all live on the bottom. NYC and western Nassau are allowed to use large amounts of chlorine to clean their sewer system. Plus, when heavy rains occur they just open the flood...
George, I remember those days very well. Charlie and I would find ourselves drifting the same area many a time. As you said the better fish had an early showing every year. Maybe the lack of bluefish that we are seeing now is related to the same problem? Before Gulp came around my go-to bait was...
Two trips to my early season haunts off the Morgan estate in Asharoken have yielded only large birds. Decent action on 14" to 16" fish at the entrance to Lloyd Hbr and the channel in Huntington Hbr near the first marinas. I understand the theory regarding water temps but why do they catch fluke...
So I will occasionally dead stick a rig with fluke, bluefish or robin belly. Am I correct in thinking that it is OK to fish the belly strip while on a bucktail with a J hook but not on a three-way rig with a plain baitholder hook? Must the three-way use a circle?

Your idea may have some merit. Those late March-early April flounder trips are sorely missed. I would also like to see an open season to harvest commorants.

I have only one wish for Santa this year. Bring back the Fluke fishing in the Lloyd Neck to Smithtown Bay area to what it was in the early to mid 2000's. I don't have much hope for this but if anyone can do it Santa can. Right?

George, I follow all of Pete's reports and am envious of the quality catches you boys make. I can only hope it changes here on the north side.

The fluking out of Huntington has been degrading for many years now. It is very disappointing as fluking is my passion. I culled my share of keepers from mostly very short fish. The burst of action early on has become shorter season after season. Only one limit trip and no fish over 4 lbs for me...
We will be flying our flags in the Long Island sound TrumpStock boat parade. Starting at 12pm two groups, one from Port Jefferson and one from Port Washington, will have a slow cruise meeting in Oyster Bay. Everyone is welcomed to join along the way.

Fished the last of the ebb to slack and start of flood in the deep drop offs at Lloyds. The S/SW wind made for a perfect drift. The fish should be there and they were. BUT..............of the 15 or so fish I caught most were 16 to 17". Two fat 18 1/2" went back as well. Very depressing.

I have fished out of Huntington for over 50 years. I fish for all species from Lloyds to Crab Meadow and across to CT. When fluke showed up in the sound years ago they became my passion. I wanted that 10 lber......... and still do. Over the last 10 to 15 years early season success has wained as...
