Sharks in the Long Island Sound

I was looking at John Skinners book (fishing the edge) and was amazed at the big sharks in caught in the Long Island Sound (see page 150). While walking the pup at Port Jefferson, I saw some guys prepping to go out on the Stony Brook Sea Wolf. I asked if they caught anything interesting, he...

Ha! You know, I may go now. I have to say, it is nice to sometimes discuss ideas and people can discuss without getting upset. I have no idea what happens to Gulp when a fish swallows it. If you have a premise, you need to be open minded and hope someone can prove you wrong. I enjoyed the...

I thought this was interesting that nobody here knew. You guys are some of the most knowledgeable people regarding fishing. So I wrote Ward Melville. They mentioned the seminar schedule was updated. Mike is a research Technician from Stony Brook. The importance of catch and release...

That is your way. Others may want to consider if using plastics is something they want to continue to use.

Is it me or is this scary?

As I mentioned in a previous post, I sent inquiries to Gulp (Berkley) Fishbites. The Fishbites reply is posted. Gulp (Berkley) never replied for whatever reason. If you are looking for data, Fishbites may supply it. Try Gulp. Maybe you'll get a reply.

    Shows

I went last year. Personally, I was a bit disappointed. But that's me.

FROM FISHBITES: When you say worms, which of our products are you referring to? The Fight Lures or our standard cut baits? If you have picture that would be great. What I can tell you is all of our products are made from a water based material opposed to oil based like most artificial baits are...

Part of the equation. The ability to pass the plastic is another. I agree with you and will be surprised if a reply mentions that their product is digestible. However, they may be able to pass these bait without harm. This is my suspicion as I think we would be finding more fish with these...

Is this of interest to you? Would you chnage based on the replies. I know from replies some will not. If no interest from you guys, I can use replies for my own use.

Getting back to rubber... I saw Hogy Sand Eels and wondered if they make a good sand eel replacement. So I emailed Hogy through their website. This was their reply: Thank you for reaching out to us. We appreciate your business very much! We have not done any studies on digestibility of the...

Anyone have a list of speakers and topics?? I went to the Ward Melville site and they had 2023 posted. I am assuming they already know who is speaking. It opens at 8 AM?

Is it me or is this scary?

Not sure where I read it or if it is true.... But I read to maximize profit and turn over inventory (the pigs), they were sending them to slaughter much younger. The younger pigs did not have the same skin like older pigs and did not make the same quality pork rind. Not sure what changed fir...

Is it me or is this scary?

Does the info in this thread make you re-think the use of plastics??? At least, if you have a favorite, push the manufacturer for data on digestibility??? I have used Gulp and Fishbites. I’m going to ask. In the meantime, despite the cost, I may go back to spearing. Same thing with bucktails...

Is it me or is this scary?

Just to follow up... I emailed a few manufacturers and asked them questions regarding the digestibility of their product. None replied. It could mean one of two things: They don’t know due to the fact that they never did a study They do know and do not want to share the data.

Is it me or is this scary?

So, I have to ask, as I do not know the answer.... All the plastic worms sold at shows....Are they digestable by fish. There are so many: Z Mans, Plugbait, All American Stink, Fishbites, Hogy Sand eels and even sponge strips soaked in Gulp juice. Do the manufacturers make any claims as to...

    Fluke. Seabass, Porgy Regs 2024

May I ask a question regarding the DEC meeting on Jan 31st? Can you elaborate more on it? Where is it? Time? Open to all? I have gone to a few of these. Commercials, Party and Charter Captains and bait shop owners are represented. I assume it is due to their financial interest. Recreational...

    Fluke. Seabass, Porgy Regs 2024

I have always wondered about fish mortality. Right now one the biggest issue for strict regs and reduced biomass may be the discard rate for both recreational, charter/party boat and commercial fishermen. Asking charter or Party boat Captains I know the average of what they assume is that...
