    A GULP! Substitute? Maybe So . . .

It's definitely a concern, esp in freshwater. I've found bloated senkos in nearly half the lakers I've harvested out of RV, and have caught/released many bass with huge heads and emaciated bodies...some of those probably had plastic plugging them up also. I've often wondered if a ban on soft...

    A GULP! Substitute? Maybe So . . .

epoxy jigs are money for sure... But day in/day out, if you're targeting fluke...I don't think there's a bait that even comes close to gulp. I spent the entire 2018 season experimenting with Keitech Easy Shiners and fat impacts...incredible baits, incredible action, but at best...under the most...

    A GULP! Substitute? Maybe So . . .

There is no PVC in gulp, the main component is some kind of yam powder/paste. They use the same or similar type of yams to make Shiritaki noodles and other food products for human consumption. Someone looked up and posted the patent on Gulp years ago...that's why they can claim it's...

What has happened to the fluke fishing??

I honestly think the tail end of those 20"/21" seasons produced some of the best quality fluking in the Sound. I remember limiting out multiple times off Jack's skiffs...no sonar or even navionics app, just drifting around "known" landmarks and jigging gulp. It certainly took out a chunk of...

Caring for your catch p2: Storage

Give it a try! I should clarify that by "loosely wrapped" I just meant don't seal off the foil package by crimping it. You still want the foil to form around the fish, pressing the paper towels against the fillets.

    How do you kayak ?

Before we paint ourselves with too broad a brush...let me just say that I know yakkers who run the other way when they see another yak on the horizon lol

What has happened to the fluke fishing??

I know Jbay got a shot of quality fish early last season, but like RB the summer patterns just fizzled out. RB is in serious trouble...you know something's wrong when all the party boats are steaming into the ocean first week of June. That was prime back bay fluking in the past, but for some...

What has happened to the fluke fishing??

As far as the western sound, probably more accurate to say decade to decade...

What has happened to the fluke fishing??

Yeah, it's really a shame. Past couple of seasons Raritan Bay fluking took a nosedive as well. The last survey showed poor recruitment for many years in a row. That combined with the population shifting north...not sure if we'll ever see a recovery in the west.

    Back bay fluke rig preferences

It's called the "Unhookum" tool: Best fish hook remover – dehooking tool – dehooker – disgorger : The unHOOKum Hook Removal Tool It works well when your jig is inside the jaws of a fluke, too deep to risk getting bit but not so deep that you can barely see the jig head. 90% of hook ups that...

    Back bay fluke rig preferences

Elias is a natural, I've witnessed in person his uncanny ability to locate and stay on fish under tough conditions. I like spinning for the lightest stuff, 1/8 - 3/8oz, simply because line flies off the spool better and I can get my light jigs down to the bottom faster. Anything 1/2oz and over I...

I hear ya on the weight, I think the lightest sea-worthy hobies are still north of 65lbs w/o the seat/pedal. FWIW, mine is an inflatable...pluses and minuses, but one of the major pluses is its weight: the hull weighs 35lbs!
