Federal Judge Blocks New Right Whale Lobstering Restrictions Poor Science!!

These judges wield a lot of power. I can remember years ago when a District Judge in NY shut down the entire Giant Bluefin fishery on the East Coast. I was on the side of shutting it down at the time, and we were shocked it worked. It was short-lived however as it was soon overturned. I find it...

When was the last time we had a Spring Mackerel season off Long Island ?

So Speaking of mackerel . . . here's a release from NOAA today. In it, they admit that overfishing is occurring so they're going to lower the com quota to 5k pounds a day. At the same time, they admit that it remains overfished and overfishing actually increased slightly. Just think about...

When was the last time we had a Spring Mackerel season off Long Island ?

As a kid, we would fill the boat with them off of Sunken Meadow. It probably contributed to the problem

When was the last time we had a Spring Mackerel season off Long Island ?

@Snapprhead27 . That's true but they showed so late. Then we had the chubbs come through. But still nothing in the sound.

When was the last time we had a Spring Mackerel season off Long Island ?

That is one complicated question packed with so many unknowns. I have been looking into this and many experts agree that we are seeing a mass migration and transformation for marine fisheries we have seen since keeping records. I'm working on a special podcast on this very issue.

How prepared is the Coast Guard for an oil spill off Long Island ?

You're slowly but surely sucking me into a political debate. But I'm not taking the bait. Now we're bringing opec into it. Wouldn't it be great if we were still energy independent? More fish are killed in the Gulf from red and blue/green tide than anything else. Nothing has ever, or will ever...

How prepared is the Coast Guard for an oil spill off Long Island ?

Imagine that. All of this mayhem of tankers and not a single incident. At the same time they're going to be shutting down the block island wind farms to repair stress cracks in the turbines. It's slated to be down for months. I guess theyll be started up those fuel burning generators. I don't...
