I've certainly lost more hooks this year to bluefish than ever before. I eventually switched over to braided wire. I can't say I am entirely unhappy by the return of consistent bluefish action with large fish in my shallow and deep bass spots since early May. Hopefully it lasts after the bass have all headed east. Here's my question.
These are all very large fish, in the 7-15 lb class. They were not born yesterday. So where have they been? There have hardly been any blues around the last several years. And where are the current cocktails. I don't know if I've hooked one blue under 6 pounds this year. It used to be most of the blues were in big schools, made up of under 5 lb fish. So where were the current fish when they were small and where are the current small bluefish?
