Had a similar experience, it gets advanced through till barb is exposed then clipped, retrieved and bleed.
They did that at Coney Island hospital when i was 12yrs old, it was awesome.

i was 12, taken to Coney Island hospital with three friends by a hywy patrol cop from under the mill basin draw bridge on the belt parkway doing over 100mph and my Father was at the hospital when I got there…..
