the other day fishing bait/bottom, pulling back on a hooked fish, the line let’s go easily… wen retrieved I noticed the 20# mono was frayed a good 30’ length off the top… knowing the mono was fresh, I wondered what would do this… was it the dogfish from past outings as the dogfish skin is highly abrasive, possibly but not that far down the line…

then I recall wen beach fishing in Florida the Sargassum Grass is highly abrasive as those grass days should be handled wit care…

so it reminded me of a day last week wen the Grass here was heavy, as this load places strain on the terminal end especially…

I just gave my reel a fresh 200 yards of mono but if I was using braid, I’m sure the grass would be equally as damaging… still learning after all these years… cellfish.…

As a precaution, check your guides with a dry Q-tip. Flex the rod a bit and check for hairline cracks.
LC, thanks for reminding me, just checked wit QTIP, eyeballs and fingers, all good… Saint Croix are quality rods… thanks…

at Stanleys place in Florida, I respooled his budget poles twice until I caught his tiptop cracked… cellie…
