This honor can only be bestowed by Pete but I feel the new Jigging World Onyx is worthy. With first hand knowledge of 20+ years using the Lep Stick (Bass Pro Musky XH) I look forward to Pete's input. The Onyx comes in spinning (up to 9') and casting (7' or 7'6") models. Lep Stick OG requirements were value, versatility and longevity. These new Carbon sticks come in at under 8 oz, spiral wrapped for casting models, with MH, H, XH ratings. At under $100 they come with a nifty Jigging World nylon sleeve and high reviews from my friends at Tackle World (they couldve easily recommended their more expensive lines). Can't wait to get mine wet with April Tog and Stripers on the horizon. You can check em out at next week's NJ Saltwater Expo in Edison "it's a really big show"..

I will be there next Sat and give it a full Leprevaluation. 😎

I’ll tell ya one thing, I treasure my little Jigging World Ghost Hunter 150gram slow pitch jigger. What a great little rod it is for fluking.

I went to the Jersey Show yesterday and saw a ton of new and interesting goodies. Bought a 3-pack of glow rubber teaser skirts from M3-Tackle and got a SMOKIN' hot deal on a new slow pitch fluke jigger from Dan at Palmarius Tackle. Beautiful rod, which I will discuss in more detail in the New Tackle Evaluation thread.

As to the JW Onyx series - very nice and worth the money. I don't know if a $100 rod can take the place of a $29.95 BPS stick from 15 seasons ago in the best buy category though. Ehhh, maybe so, 15 years of price increases every season might well make it a "time adjusted - like worth" price. Seemed fine at that price to me.

The JW rod series that really got my attention was the new Luminous line of jigging rods. Very nice indeed, with a really sweet taper, and upgraded components - right at $150, and I'm sure a deal could have been had at the Show with a little bit of prying. These are not long rods like the Onyx. The ones I saw were all 6'6" or less, so maybe they're better suited for private boats, while the 7' - 7'6" Onyx rods would be better on head boats, what with the added distance from the water, plus the occasional need to steer your line around other anglers on a crowded rail.
