Recent pickup for my surf rod arsenal. 9’ lamiglas s-glass built by Stan in 88. I always appreciate the older stuff and jump on it when I have the chance. Ill be using this gem in the upcoming weeks for schoolies in the back bay. It will be nice to bring life back to this classic. Any surfcasting classics that you guys still use today??

I still use an 11' 8" Lami honey rod (conventional). Used to 13' until I snapped the tip off. Conventional glass rods cast very different than the graphite ones in use today. Whenever I've been casting a lot with the honey, it always takes a few casts to get my release point down with my graphites. The honey has a parabolic bend, and being glass, it loads slower and releases slower and longer than an equivalent graphite rod. It's also heavier and tougher on the arms. I just had a new rod made for me by Southside Custom Rods that I haven't picked up yet. Can't wait to see what Andrew Kumjian made for me.

Started with a 13 1/2' honey color Lamiglass blank I got at Lon Wanser, & a Crack 300 I think I paid $19.00 for. The blank had a couple feet of cork tape at the butt & the reel & guides were attached to the blank with black tape. Went to the Army Navy store for a used belt, I was good to go. Made friends in the dark of nite over 50yrs ago that I still fish with.

I'm actually looking for one of these to fish with.
I might give the guys from Hatteras Jack a call.

You would walk in his shop and it was either him or his wife wrapping rods.

Why would you do that?

This rod is a 4 and bait beach casting rod.
This rod is a 5 and bait ground casting rod.
