Panga Boats should be way more popular up North

25 Foot Pangas are beautiful boats ( especially the ones built by Eduardono of Columbia). Big Giant Bow , needs low HP to push it and it's dirt cheap for a new boat. $10,000 for a new 25 foot Bare Hull( free freight ) . Add a used trailer and motor and you'd be on the water for $14,000 -$15,000. You fish mostly local, you could easily get by with a 30 HP Tiller on the back that would push you 10-12 knots. Install an 8 foot Bimini Top, A Swingback cooler seat and you got yourself a very capable fishing boat for peanuts. Guys take Pangas out to the Canyon ( crazy if you ask me , I never went out there in a big 31 foot downeaster ), so obviously it's a very good sea boat. Ideally It's perfect for Long Island Bays, 10 -15 miles offshore, off Montauk Point . I own a 25 Panga and yes it's very narrow , but I realized how stable the boat is. Me and my brother weigh a combined 600 pounds, we were off Jones Beach trolling for Bass and went to one side and it hardly tipped. 10 x better than any row boat , runabout or Bass boat. My front wheel drive minivan tows it perfectly. Dead low tide at the boat ramp, sharp incline and it pulls right out in Eco mode.
Not interested in Pangas, Eduardono also makes full size pleasure boats and probably half what American companies charge. Check out the Eduardono Website. Not many foreign made boats on the market in the US.

I almost bought my 25 Panga from My Last boat in Florida, but it was a nightmare to ship it North. $10,000 for that hull and available in 15 different color combinations. I ended up buying the boat from South Shore Panga out in Hampton Bays. $10,000 with free freight.

same ?
It's a different kind of Panga Boat. I see those stories on You Tube as well. All around San Diego. I saw one video with a boat like mine and it had 20-25 people on board. Most boats would have the same trouble in a rough beach surf. They panic and go to one side and it flips over.

That boat has 200 HP, way more than mine. With that heavy motor, custom T Top, full fiberglass deck , full size console, leaning post , double axle trailer, it's probably 1400 pounds heavier than my rig. Day 1 I made sure my boat was as light as possible because I was towing with a minivan. My rig has 50 HP, removable wood floors , an 8 Foot Bimini top , a small RPD console for electronics, a compass, a battery, tiller steering, a 70 Quart Wise Swing Back cooler seat and a single axle aluminum trailer . My whole rig is about 2500 pounds, 1000 pounds under my vans towing capacity. 22 knots top speed, 12-14 knots most of the time. 200 HP is way too much.
That's the beauty of a 25 foot Panga, you can go light or add a lot of things, have a big motor and either way you get good performance.

Pangas are not popular up here because they're wet and they pound.
Fished them in Cabo and Panama and at the end of the day I was beat up!

Just my unprofessional opinion....

Sorry for the late reply I was upstate for 5 nights at my cabin and no internet.
If it was a choice between getting a 25 Panga and keeping my 16 foot aluminum rowboat it's way better getting the 25 Panga that I can take on the ocean . I will never go out the inlet with even a little wind and just go out when it's flat as a lake, gentle swells. It'll pound more because it's light weight compared to a heavier Mako, Grady White, but it's a very seaworthy boat considering. The Panga is the Mako, Grady White of the 3rd world and they're taken offshore in very nasty conditions by fishermen in those countries. The Panga has a floatation bulge all along the top that will turn the Panga right side up if it ever capsized.
Rides thru the bay like a champ, goes thru big boat wakes and I don't have to slow down , I rode thru Jones Inlet with waves coming from each direction and it steered straight and dry. I've had my Panga for a year and a half now and it's plenty dry most of the time. If it's blowing at a certain angle I'll get spray, my 32 Downeaster also was wet when the wind blew at a certain angle.
I considered getting an upgrade to a 16 foot Alumacraft with helm chairs, side decks , cost $7500 , then I read about the 25 Panga that cost me $9500 for a bare hull. No comparison. You got the money to buy a big expensive boat , buy that, you want a no frills boat that'll let you fish all around the island, off Montauk , 10 miles offshore consider a 25 Panga. The only 25 footer you could tow with a front wheel drive minivan.
