On a related note, well over 30 years ago I was on a charter trip with Capt Tony Loperfido (renowned large Fluke angler) and aboard was Lori Mangan (RIP) who was a world class lady angler. She also wrote a column for the LIF during those years.

At a time when most of us were still using broom sticks to catch Tog, Lori was using what we laughed at as "freshwater sized tackle" always looking to set another IGFA record. She managed to land at least one Tog over 10# that day on the super light gear and it looked enormous to us with our "Pool Cue" rods. Still, that is only half the size of this behemoth. What an enormous Tog! Congrats to the angler and the Capt.

Two other funny recollections I have of that memorable trip. One was Capt. Tony bragging about the effectiveness of Hermit Crabs for catching Tog. One piece we were fishing found another boat anchored only about 30' away from us. When we first pulled up Tony insisted we use only green crabs until a certain stage of the tide. Then he claimed that at just the right time we could start using the Hermits and all the Tog that were already established under our neighbors boat would swim over to us desperate to get a taste of the hermits!

Also, I remember Lorry spending a great deal of time swapping fish recipes with all of us. Although I never had a chance to eat any of the really tasty sounding creations she mentioned, I bet they were darned good! She was one special lady and one hell of an angler. I believe her name is still in the record books for several IGFA top spots on Fluke, Blackfish, and Sea Bass.
