R.I. Fluke and Tog

This year was a weird one for Fluke. Most of my fishing is inshore under 60 Ft of water and I go fishing every good weather day of the summer. I fished in R.I. waters for 40 or more years. I been a deck ape on a head boat, sternman on a lobster boat and for about 20 years a rabid recreational fisher and I have a commercial license which I do enough landings to keep current. Anyhow the Fluke started off great with big fish and plenty of them then around early June things went south quick. The squid either left the beach front or never really arrived in big numbers. The result was very spotty numbers and a huge proportion 10-17 inch fish.Keepers were few and far between. So much for that season. Small Bass and Blues were at an all time high for the whole summer. Welcome to R.I. 2019. Year of the small fish. Both Sea Bass and Tog however were the best ever. Very abundant and larger than average on both species. I guess I am about typed out. Looking forward to 2020. Good Luck to all. treemanjb

I can say that I had a pretty good squidding season in May then it dried right up completely to zip zilch by end of May. That way all summer ! Fluke was tough, but landed a few though short of any doormats.

BSB was so good this year for my friends and I that I would say it was the best I have ever experienced in my life. It was almost sickening .Nice to see !!

Fluke, porgie, BSB... all I needed summer into fall was spro/gulp with bait holder/gulp up above. Caused strikes for everything I fished for up here in the salt minus blackfish. Diamonds along too ( they work), but seldom bothered to change over.
