The old Garcia 230 that I put on my new 6' Tsunami Slimwave is on its last legs. Not looking to break the bank but want something under $100. (half that would be nice!). Will use 12lb braid for jigging bucks. since its for the kayak, no real need for a lot of capacity although the occasional blue will undoubtedly surprise.

Midcoast Maine
Penn Battle 2 2000, 2500 or 3000, all under $100. Very nice reels, I have them on my "Guest" rods. I spoil myself with Clashes on my personal rods, regardless I usually buy and reel when Bean has a 20% off sale and use any "Bean Bucks" and/or Bean Gift Coupons I may have accumulated with my CC. Got a Clash 4000 for $40 last year...

thanks John, knew I could count on you. Pretty sure that is the way I am going. the BG2000 is probably better as I am looking at light line and jigs on my light 6' rod. Caught a few fluke on it now, one decent size, so the rod needs a new reel (not a 1980ish Garcia 230, although I think I fixed the sticky drag, lol.)

Hey Pequa1 - we are gonna be starting up a tackle review feature on my forum very shortly. First up is a Daiwa Harrier Slow Pitch spinning rod, with a Black Gold 2500 reel. Nice outfit for just under 2 Bills. I still have to procure it and give it a fair evaluation, of course. If you can chill just a bit, the article should be up and ready to read in a few weeks. Best, Pete

Little bird told me that the Birthday Butterfly is flying it in, (maybe on a drone !) but I really appreciate the offer. I love the Tsunami Slimwave 6' Medium, and when the drag and bail work good on my 40 year old Garcia 230 its a nice match, but the aforementioned butterfly may be bringing in a 2000, lol. I have been using 12lb braid and a 1/2 oz buck with a teaser, both gulp tipped and while I have yet to catch more than three fish a day off the yak, I really love going this light, able to flick the wrist during the duration of a two or three hour paddle.

OK, so after an enlightening conversation with John from Trophy Tackle, there'll be a slight change of plans. We're going with the new Tsunami Evict in the same size class, instead of the Daiwa BG2500. He loves this new reel, with its stainless steel gear train, instead of the cast zinc gearing of the Diawa BG reels. Being that Trophy Tackle is a Daiwa warranty repair shop, he's seen a goodly amount of issues with those gears, hence his recommendation for the SS-geared Tsunami. Nothing I like more than trying the latest thing on the market - and you can bet on it that I'll give it a thorough workout and subsequent review. This is gonna be cool!! The offer still holds if you wanna pass by Casa Lep. . .
