N.R.A. Declares Bankruptcy and Seeks to Exit New York

The group, which said it planned to reincorporate in Texas, is currently being investigated by New York’s attorney general, who is seeking to dissolve it.

Seeking an end-run around an investigation by the New York attorney general, the National Rifle Association said Friday that it was declaring bankruptcy and would reincorporate in Texas. The gun group was set up in New York after the Civil War.

The plan raised immediate questions from Letitia James, the New York attorney general and a Democrat, who is seeking to use her regulatory authority to dissolve the N.R.A. She has been conducting an investigation into corruption at the gun group since 2019 that has led to infighting and discontent, as well as some departures from the group’s board.

“The N.R.A.’s claimed financial status has finally met its moral status: bankrupt,” Ms. James said in a statement Friday. “While we review this filing, we will not allow the N.R.A. to use this or any other tactic to evade accountability and my office’s oversight.”

Typically, non-profit groups that are chartered in New York and under investigation are prohibited from relocating during an inquiry; in recent years, the attorney general’s office prevented the Trump Foundation from closing before it had reached the conclusion of an investigation into that organization.

The group said it had also formed a committee to examine moving its headquarters out of Fairfax, Va., and that it would study “opportunities for relocating segments of its business operations to Texas or other states.”

Wayne LaPierre, the longtime chief executive of the N.R.A., said in a statement that “this strategic plan represents a pathway to opportunity, growth and progress.”

“Obviously, an important part of this plan is ‘dumping New York,’” he added. “The N.R.A. is pursuing reincorporating in a state that values the contributions of the N.R.A., celebrates our law-abiding members, and will join us as a partner in upholding constitutional freedom. This is a transformational moment in the history of the N.R.A.”

The N.R.A. has weathered years of revelations about its spending and oversight practices, including hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on Mr. LaPierre’s Zegna suits and far-flung travel to places like the Bahamas, Palm Beach, Reno and Italy’s Lake Como. The group even once explored buying a $6 million mansion in a Dallas-area gated community for his use.

The N.R.A. conceded in recent tax filings that Mr. LaPierre and other executives had received hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of improper benefits from the group, which were reimbursed.

I never knew I could buy ins for shooting someone. WTF

Good Job SDNY ?

Lets roll out the subpoenas and invite the soon to be Ex president back up to NY one last time.

I love how they identified 200 from the Capitol thing in less than a week and they cant catch anyone who destroyed, burned, and looted property in every major urban area throughout the last 12 months.

I would think raiding and ransaking the Capitol is a lot more of a priority than some local store ransaking. ;)

Plus it's alot easier when friends and family members are turning in the "Accidental Patriots".

I don't expect the police to go and find my shoplifted items, no matter how many clear pics of the perps I give the police.

Thank "god" that the Revutionary war was fought by Americans with real backbones rather than the "they pushed me in" patriots.

How about if your store was looted then burned. Would you feel differently? I know someone who this happened to and the authorities didn’t do anything about it.

Like I said, I expect very little from the police. I take care of 99.9% of shoplifting and any other issues I have. Armed robberies, I would report, but from experience I would not expect much.
And I have ins for fire and other damages.

I would hope the FBI is a bit more proactive and capable of finding and capturing traitors who are posting selfies after ransaking the Capitol and talking about selling laptops that they stole to Russia than what ever could ever happen @ my store.

We had my dumpster set on fire a day after an azzhole opened a store in front of us in the 80's. That was the reason my dad went from 7 to 12 to a 24hr operation. Never found the perp, but we knew who it was. We were just glad it disn't spread to the Apts above us.

This azzhole has been shoplifting from me for over a decade. I know where he lives but the cops don't care. He rolls by on his bike grabs what he can and rolls away. This still shot was pulled from my security system. This was the last day he pulled that crap on me.
He grabbed cut fruits from that ice bin behind him walked towards his bike and I gave chase. He turned threw the fruit at me and tried to flee down the subway entrance and tripped. ? Fucked up his face on the bottom of the staircase. I went down there to kick his ass but I saw that Karma had done a fine job. Bloody mouth and nose and maybe parts of his glasses lodged in his face.

Came up and trashed his bike which was littering the sidewalk in front of my store.

Havn't seen him around the store since. I do see him rolling around on a citibike once in awhile so I know he is still in the neighborhood.

I just realized that that was about two years ago...1/24th/2019.

Now my Freesync monitors are G sync capable. It always has been but now Nvidia has made it official.

Here’s comes that Blue Wave we’ve heard about. The new guy in town is popular like Hugo Chavez was. Gonna give everyone free stuff. ROTFLMFAO! NY will make sure they all have a drivers license and then they’ll go to VA, MD, Illinois, Mass, and GA, to vote.

Whew, it's a good thing the Suprem Leader got Mexico to pay for that awesome wall. Instead of working on a real solution to the world wide illegal imigration problem.

They are coming for your jobs. All you toilet cleaners better start worring and start looking for a new job.
