    Crabbing on the GSB

Totally agree Pequa1. Johnny Crab and I were at a lobster feast yesterday and we both wished it was blue crab. He's my summer barometer for crabs. He is catching at least twice and almost three times as many as last year. Plus, the crabs are beautiful.

    Crabbing on the GSB

As most of you know, I'm really into catching crabs. For the past 5-10 years, like the clam, crabbing has been mediocre at best. This year started out that way and then we started to notice a lot of crabs and a change in the number of large "she" crabs (immature female crabs). Johnny Crab and I...

S550. Front and rear brakes, oil change with filter and both air filters done. Easy job and saved thousands.

The never ending chat thread, chat about anything That your up too

Getting ready to do an oil change and a front and rear wheel brake change on my Mercedes S550. For those that have one or another model of a Mercedes set up the same way, it's the easiest oil change you will ever do and stupid expensive to have done. You don't even need a pair of gloves and you...

    Whats on tonights Menu

Got a leg of lamb and cut into a couple of small roasts. They came out great. Stuffed it with garlic, rubbed it down with olive oil and rosemary. Put it in an air fryer and pulled it out at 135 degrees. It was delicious with air fried potatoes and a late addition of carrots.

Good News, Clams Returning to GSB

I put this in Articles but wanted others to see it if they didn't check Articles. I read the study and agree with it's findings. If you haven't read it, you might want to do so. It's very informative. Not that I'm a fan of Hockul, I do admire her for providing $10,000,000 for the Town of Islip...

Comment by 'Crabman' in article 'The Great Return: Hard Clams Stage a Remarkable Comeback in the Great South Bay'

This research paper/study is one of the most informative and positive articles about the Great South Bay and it's clam situation I have ever read. It's so refreshing to read a scientific study of the GSB as a particular area as opposed to the entire water system of Long Island's south shore. I...

Wow Susie, my head is swelling. Thank you for those incredible kind words. I will read the article and I'm sure with George's recommendation, it's got to be a good one. I truly enjoy this site. I think it's a talented group and the moderation makes it one of the best forums I have been involved...

Good News, Clams Returning to GSB

That's them. They're about $100. I copied the design many years ago from one a friend had. There were a couple of companies making them. There's no name on them. I don't know if they were killer clam rakes back then. They had a different deep basket. Gave them away when I moved and the clamming...

From the Depths: Week of July 18, 2025 - Doomsday Fish Rise, Records Shatter, and Giants Emerge from Global Waters

Not crazy rare but I used to catch these lancetfish. Very cool looking with amazing blue eyes and set of choppers to be careful of.

Chinacat, my mouth is watering each time I see this post. I can taste the flavor of the lemon. That fluke looks awesome, the sides and bread are a perfect fit.

I don't. I made a couple of these rakes years ago. I did not design the rake. I knocked it off in my shop.

    Scallops in the GSB

I'm seeing the same on my creek. They are fast, efficient hunters. Eels don't stand a chance. They had to remove the island in Argyle Lake in Babylon because they coated it with the most foul stench of white shit. As you walk around the lake and got downwind, the smell would gag a rat.
