Hi Cell. I always trim the "belly" out and dice the clams. Otherwise the chowder looks muddy. Making clam chowder from fresh clams is a lot of work but it's fun and worth it. Checkout that bowl of delicious clam juice. I begin to steam my clams in very little water and the juice is almost pure...

Never left the kitchen today. Cooked up the breakfast pies and went right into steaming clams and turned them into a chowder.

Bundled up and ran across the bay today on the low tide to enjoy the fresh air and catch a batch of clams for clam chowder. Donned my waders and clam rake and scratched up all I needed in twenty minutes. very enjoyable winter outing.

    Old Inlet Breach

Not only did the water clear up but there was a huge growth spurt in the clams. The clams have growth rings like trees and it was very easy to see the difference. Also we have been seeing a resurgence of scallops if you know where to look.

Sure is. Stayed in a bit longer than usual this time but I don't usually haul until mid-December. I'm flexible due to the trailer.

Shoveled and warm water washed all the snow out of the boat in the driveway to get ready to shrink wrap. Unfortunately, the weather, mostly wind, has been a problem for my wrap guy and the schedule keeps slipping. I totally understand his predicament.

With the nice weather yesterday, I hauled the boat at Captree and power washed it at the house. Waiting for it to be wrapped. Another season comes to a close with the Contender but I'm still active on the water with my 24' Carolina Skiff. Next warm spell, I will be clamming and scalloping.

Did Kathy Hochul give away the bunker again ?

I don't know what's causing it, but I have never seen the schools of bunker is such a decline over the past two years. Also, the bunker in the schools that do make it off our southern shore are so small. What's up with the size?

    YELLOW JACKET ?

I was doing the fall cleanup last week on a warm day. I don't know where she came from but I got stung on the top of my ear. My ear looked like a wrestler's cauliflower ear and hurt like hell for a week. Like we are all saying in this discussion, yellow jackets, which are actually wasps, are one...

Just got back from the Maine 5K X-Country State Finals where I'm proud to say my 15 y.o. sophomore grandson took 6th place in a field of about 80 strong runners from across the state. His team took 5 of the 11 top places and won the overall Team trophy for the first time in 30 years. The...

Thanks Mojoe. I did wash it off right after the photo. I'm sure you're right. That poop is not good for the finish as it bakes in the sun.
