The difference in NY/NJ fluke bag limits began in 2017 when NJ was penalized 1 fluke when NJ went out of compliance with ASFMC guidelines. NJ 'knew' there would be penalties but never a closure. In 2026 NJ Fluke bag limit is 3, while NY is four. However NJ still benefits from smaller legal...
I usually cut 1" off the fat end of the 6" grubs for same reason. Unless I'm using long shank Owner 7/0+ hooks where the full size 6" grubs is perfect. I've not done well with the 8" grubs but I'll keep trying. Gulpguy Al ^^ uses the 6" mullet and has won several tournaments with them....
If you'll be at the Ward Melville or Somerset shows checkout my NJ buddy Gulpguy Al, he's selling everything (grubs, mullets, sandeels, shads, all sizes) 3 packs for $20. His margin on Pink Shine and White Glow is less but his show price is same for all colors. He also sells the small stuff...
Correct George however we still need to use the avenues open to us, the rec Fisherman. Keep an eye out for upcoming regional meetings (Stony Brook DEC in past). In person attendance at regional meetings is best, face-to-face comments are listened to. Since the Feds have changed their tune I'm...
ASMFC just approved "status quo" for Federal Fluke recreational fishing in 2026 and 2027. This means that the 2025 Fluke quotas set by the Feds will be used the next two years.
NJ will holding off on statewide Fluke proposals until after we learn how/when the Mid-Atlantic Sea Bass quota increase...

Mitch,,, this is good news for all Atlantic States. The 20% increase is against current statewide regs, NY included. NJ should be thanked for taking the battle to the Fed level.
In fact in another update from the ASMFC... I just got an email recapping the December meeting and they are keeping...
The info below was copied from NJ fishing site. Much of the work done on the Fed level should benefit ALL states, hopefully we see some improvements in 2026::
". . . 2026 Regulations Recap
When is the last time our regulations actually got better, not worse?
Although the 2026 NJ regulations...
Some good news on the Bunker front….
The Atlantic Menhaden Management Board has voted to cut the coastwide menhaden catch limit by 20% for 2026, setting the new total allowable catch at 186,840 metric tons. The decision, made by the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC), is a...
Recent ball busting episode:
Fluking with my 2 buddies on one of their boats, catching nothing but shorts. I called for the net once or twice on Fish that were just short. They started calling me Wolfie, as in the boy that cried wolf. From that point on they refused to net any of my Fluke...
NJ Fluke Season ends tomorrow so we gave it a go today with nice ocean conditions. Unfortunately the ocean fluke were not around, just a couple of sea robins. Figured we'd try a few drifts outside our marina on Shark River and were rewarded with numerous shorts, no keepers, all FAT/THICK fish...
Too many moving parts to predict George. Are the closures no harvest or no targeting? Are the waves regional, coastwide or by state? Is status Quo really status quo?... stay tuned.... American Angler is NJ only for now....
Here's a summary from NJ in-person only meeting:
N
This is my take on the Striped Bass meeting last night in Stafford Township Volunteer Fire Hall. It was all about the reduction of harvest in our recreational community.
I arrived right at 6 pm last night, representing American Angler and our...
