    There are probably 25 “ lobster” pots on the Shinnecock reef now , up from a handful last year. I’ve spoken with DEC enforcement and they said “ lobster” gear is legal there, sea bass pot well so there seems to be a correlation between the amount of gear and lack of fish. Sucks.

    1. The Trustees hold some of our rights in trust, one of the most important is an easement that allows us to “ pass and re pass any beach in the Township “ with horse and buggy. This has gone to State course twice and upheld as to vehicles being allowed. They don’t allow us , it’s a right

    The roll back takes some of the extreme interpretations of the law out of the picture and strikes a balance between protecting threatened species and the rights of the people.

    Agreed, the key word regarding the regulations is “ take” and that’s what has happened.

    It’s a right Guaranteed by the Dongan Patent, the right to pass and repass any beach in the Township. The rest of the Town is 4x4 accessible 9-6 from the Tuesday before Memorial Day to September 25, most of that is also infested.
