    Pollock in gulf of maine

Last year they hardly showed up, never seen anything like it. I just went out to jeffreys and we found a big school of juveniles which is a great sign that they will be back. Bite was so hot, we used hooks, and didn’t bother baiting them.

The stripers have finally made it to Maine

Howdy, I love reading you guys as you start seeing stripers so much earlier than I do, but I'm proud to report that they have arrived! Unfortunately, the coast of Maine is shutdown by a red tide and it proves getting bait to be a challenge.

Last fishing trip for a while. Stick a fork in me, I'm done until May.

Went on my last Haddock trip. Again, the boat limited. It was nuts. The fishing this far north has changed dramatically in the past 20 years. In the early 90's you could never find a haddock, but had no issues with cod. Today, the haddock are everywhere, and the cod are not. Had a good...

    Haddock fishing in December

I've heard a lot about winter fishing on boats out of montauk. I only fish on Eastmans, but even they recomend heading down to RI to hit Frances Fleet or Montauk in the winter months. Anyone ever hit those boats in January or February?

    Haddock fishing in December

It was rainy, snowy and slow. And there's no where else I'd rather be than the Gulf of Maine in December for the haddock!

How do you cook your catch?

With haddock, I like to bake it in a breadcrumb / rit mixture, or simply fry it flour egg white breadcrumb. I suppose it depends a lot on the fish.

Octobuh Haddock trip in the gulf of Maine

Great question. We started the day in 200 feet, and ended it in 385. The video you can't make it out, but I was using dual hooks. In the summer we fish in 80 to 160 feet for haddock. It's great when they run like this. Do you live in New England?

Octobuh Haddock trip in the gulf of Maine

Just a perfect day. Weather was warm, seas were flat, gorgeous weather. The boat limited, and a guy in the front of the boat hooked into a Tuna, didn't land it but the boat went nuts.

    NH offshore is heating up

Just went on a haddock trip, and the feds are allowing one cod for the next week. Boat did well. How’s the bite in your backyard?

When does the fall run start in your neck of the woods?

In New England, our fall run starts when we get a few days (about 5 or so) in the low 70s. Usually about a week after labor day. I've noticed that lately, it's been a lot less spectacular. We are still catching fish, tonite was a blast, but the run used to be spectacular. Yourself?

Midcoast Maine Striper Report: A Multi-generational Event...

I’ve been swinging and missing on anything but bait this year. Went on a friends boat on Saturday. I brought clams, and it took us an hour to pick up 6 mackerel. Bait has been challenging this year. Nice to hear you got their attention with artificials. now if only my car bill will be less...
