European Hornet (Vespa crabro):
  • Native to the eastern US: Introduced from Europe in the mid-1800s, they are now widespread.

  • Not considered invasive: Unlike the Asian giant hornet, they are not considered an invasive species and do not pose the same threat to honeybee colonies.

  • Beneficial predators: They are beneficial predators of other insects.

  • Potential for misidentification: Their large size often leads to them being mistaken for the Asian giant hornet.

  • Potential for conflict: They may prey on individual honeybees and other insects, but they do not destroy entire colonies like the Asian giant hornet.
