Well-Known Angler
After 2 blow outs last year Joe S. who won the Ward Melville raffle for a ½ day trip on my boat finally got the weather to cooperate. He was joined by his daughter Tricia and son in law Vinnie, both active anglers.
Plan was to fish the Gut for Bass and we arrived on scene just as the flood tide started to push. The volume of fish marked seemed down from just a few days ago and the large fleet of boats on the weekend didn’t help matters. It took almost 45minutes for Vinnie to land the first Bass, a rare short of 26”. Two drifts later Vinnie scores again with a nice 31” slot fish and it seemed like things were falling into place. Another few drifts and this time Joe gets his birthday fish another slot, this time a healthy 29” Striper. From there the bite shut down again and we were left to enjoy the beautiful scenery and much cooler temperatures on the water compared to the heat wave ashore.
So, although we did not crush them yesterday, we did seem to do much better than the rest of the fleet plus Joe and family went home with some tasty filets to enjoy for dinner.
