RESTORING AMERICA’s SALTWATER ANGLING AND RECREATION

Let me know once I can keep an 11 inch sea bass and/or any cod. Or a bass without a slot limit of tiny proportions. The list goes on. I see them in the stores at all sizes during all times of the year, so I know SOMEBODY can keep them............................................
 
My position is to let the professionals, NOAA, set the guidelines. Their employees are dedicated professional government workers. They rely on the best available science. They have the scientists to best make these decisions. They solicit information. from stakeholders both recreational and commercial.

Of course they don’t always get things right but that’s the nature of trying to manage wildlife for all the stakeholders at a sustainable level.

I think this is a proclamation that he made to appease the recreational and to a lessor degree commerical fishermen lobby. I don’t think it’s a good thing as I think some changes may be made that are not based in science, but rather short term economic gain.
 
I think if you read it it says to go along with restoring american sea food which did nothing I think he will amend this as it would require rec fisherman to almost fill out a trip report

A great speech by a truly great President.

But if not the Government, who then?

Prior to government regulations it was a free for all……. the “wild… wild…. West” There would be no, zero, nada, fish left had that continued.

Again, NOAA is not perfect, they have made many mistakes, and many successes. As the saying goes, “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water”

What good may come out of this is a fresh review with new eyes on the challenges. Fingers crossed that the right eyes, scientist, are involved with the process.
 
Every NOAA success has benefitted the Commercial Fishermen.

Every (Many) failure has hurt the Recreational fisherman.

Professionals? Their "scientists" are career politicians first, scientists second. They placate whatever administration is in office to save their jobs. Alot like NIH!

Failed computer models, failed data collection............I can go on and on. All one has to look at is the Black SeaBass biomass and see how far off their numbers are from reality. Stretched across many species over many years and all we end up with are draconian restrictions that do NOTHING but preserve the smaller sized fish for commercial harvest.

Do you know what scientists actually do? What education they have? Do you know any scientists?

I assume then you have looked at the Black Seabass biomass. Please, tell us what you personally know about the Black Seabass biomass, and how we should manage, or not manage, our fisheries.
 
Probably the only thing I'll criticize Trump about if this means gutting the fishing regulations. I don't know what to make of this, on the one hand they're talking about restoring fish stocks and being on the side of recreational fishermen and then on the other hand they wanna loosen regulations on commercial fishing and open up Marine Sanctuaries to fishing.. AI said a President can't change fishing quota's without Congress approval , they can change the way data is collected, how licenses are given out . They could not enforce the fishing regulations like Biden didn't enforce Immigration law. When out of state boats from the Carolina's and Virginia realize the Federal Gov't. isn't actively enforcing fishery laws they'd go out there and take as many as they wanted and you think North Carolina and Virginia would really care ??? All it takes is a phone call to an agency head- back off and don't enforce fishery laws.
