Got another chance to enjoy the unbelievable weather on Monday and headed out with a friend first thing. Got several reports from friends that there were plenty of short bass being taken both east and west of the inlet in 60-80ft on umbrella rigs. I'm really not much of a trolling guy but...
Haven't been posting much over the last 2 weeks because the bass bite has been quite slow for me. I've been out several times, inside the bay/inlet and outside mainly east. I've had a few bass on bunker pods east but with the amount of bait in the water I think it's a miracle unless you really...
We did the same today out of shinnecock. Ran east for a bit then turns west. Birds were high searching. Eventually found some birds on bait a few miles west of the inlet but no bass under. Was a washing machine out there. Most gabe up by 10am
got out this morning in search of bass. Ran east out of fire island inlet. Strong nw wind made the conditions less than ideal for spotting blow ups. Ran in about 30ft to ocean beach, stopping every once and a while to cast on bunker etc. Found some sand eels being chewed up by blues just east of...
Took advantage of the break in crummy weather and ran to the 10 miles wrecks se of fire island inlet this morning. Target species was seabass but was also hoping for triggers and bonito. Spent some time at the Dodger, Reggie and Esso Barges. Same as last week, no keeper sebass, lots of very...
Left the dock this morning around 545 for some first light weakfishing. Started the day in West channel. Slow pick of mostly shorts and the boat traffic picked up a lot around 7. Made a move over by kismet reef and we were rewarded with 3 nice keepers for a limit. Pink soft jerkbaits produced...
ran out of fire island inlet early Sunday am for the 12-15 mile wrecks in search of some seabass. Stopped at west channel on our way out to jig for weakfish. Couple small ones and we decided to keep running while it was still early. NOAA forecast was off again, dont know how they just keep...
fished the outgoing at stradford shoal this afternoon from 330-730. Plenty of blues, mostly 1-5lb size. Some schoolie bass to 26" in the mix if you could get past the blues. No other species, porgie, sea bass etc. About 25 private boats and 4 or 5 charters out there...was a zoo.
Where did you go? I can tell you that the south rip of the middle grounds during outgoing have been producing bass and blues. Look for the birds and try using small metal jigs to match the bait. Also saw some guys yesterday pull up some nice keepers trolling tubes in that area and drifting eels.
Took the boat out this morning from port jeff. Wind was much stiffer than forecasted so the ride out to the middle grounds was a bit nautical. (Is it me or does it seem that forecasting seems to get worse and worse. this year in particular has been terrible. i would say they are correct less...
fished the outgoing rips in the middle grounds this afternoon from about 4-8pm. Used only vertical/flutter jigs from 1.5-4oz. Lots of schoolie bass and blues, some decent sized fish in the mix to about 15lbs. Not much seabass or porgie. Fun trip with flat conditions.
been wanting to get out and do a blowfish-kingfish trip. Got the chance today out of captree for outgoing tide. Posted up in the usual places in sore thumb and chummed. Pretty slow but got some decent sized blowfish to bring home. No kings or really any other species. The reports of life I was...
I've never fished those areas from shore but you do have access close to where I would anchor up. I used to fish the areas of sore thumb where the jetties are, off oak beach road, just southwest of them to be precise. But if you can get to the end of the jetti you should have no problem getting...
hello everyone. Wondering if anyone would be willing to help me out finding some good spots to anchor and chum for blowfish and kingfish in the Patchogue-Moriches inlet bays? I'm used to fishing for them near Demo point and sore thumb. I've tried north of can 15 in moriches bay twice with no...
Got out this morning early am out of port jeff. Fluked the shallow water again by 11 for all shorts, last of incoming tide. Ran east to rocky point and chummed up some nice porgy in about 20ft south of 9 for about an hour. Hit the wreck north of 9 to try for seabass and nada. Back before noon.
Ran out Monday afternoon with the nw wind and flat ocean. Went to the moriches reef in search of seabass. Spent about 2.5 hours, mostly shorts, not too much out there. Don't know if they are already over pressured or just early? Ran the beach on my way back and no sign of bunker west of the...
