Captain's Table -2 Degrees is all it Took!

3 Way bucktailing in the Gut or the Race is actually more specialized than many folks think. Despite a solid bite yesterday, I actually changed sinker weights at least 3 times throughout the tide to make sure I had the correct presentation. It is also true, those special bucktails have become...

Captain's Table -2 Degrees is all it Took!

Amazing how all it took was a change in temperature of only 2 degrees and 4 days’ time to turn on the Bass at Plum Gut! On Monday’s trip my gauge never got above 50 degrees but this morning at 52 degrees I began fishing in a real pea soup fog with a positive attitude. Didn’t take long on the...

    Captain's Table - Prospecting Today

You are correct, Crabman. Pink Salty Dogs were red hot during those days. I don't think they are even for sale anymore but would probably still work.

    Captain's Table - Prospecting Today

I have mentioned this before, but you are correct, Overbored. During the famous Weakfish runs of the 70's an 8# fish was not even considered exceptional. Many 10#+ fish were captured and my PB of 13.5# was caught on a whole sandworm one calm night near Jessups. Then came the long drought but in...

Comment by 'captmike28' in article 'Yellowtail Flounder: Hidden Coastal Treasure of New York'

Is this a joke? When is the last time anyone actually caught Yellowtail Flounder in the areas suggested, with perhaps the exception of Sandy Hook. In my experience our east end Flounder fishing collapsed over 20 years ago.

    Smallmouth City

That is one heck of a Smallmouth. Must have been a great fight! Well done, George.

Late Start, But A Good One

I'm sure you will put it to good use. Just being able to avoid using the ground tackle on certain days will more than make you smile. Controlling your drift as well as thoroughly working a small piece of structure are also very strong points in its favor. I bet the fish are already nervous!!:D

Late Start, But A Good One

Always a great feeling when your boat is floating again! Did you get a chance to try the new Garmin?

Late Start, But A Good One

Nice going, John. So, you too have a trolling motor now? I thought you were sharp enough to not need such exotic equipment!! :ROFLMAO: Honestly, I am just jealous! Use it well and catch a ton of fish this season. I'm' sure I will see you out there.

    Captain's Table - Prospecting Today

Today was prospecting day for me as I decided to check out the Bass action at Orient along with a mix of our traditional species inside Peconic Bay. Bass were at least 10 days late inside the bay this season and it seems the same pattern is happening to the east. Despite a full moon and good...

It's ALWAYS a learning experience; out of boredom, did some C&R Cod Jigging...

Always nice to work the rod, even if it's C&R. I thought you had a brief Cod opening in the spring, but I guess the ME regs are even tougher than ours. As far as finding them in a slightly different location, that reinforces 2 well known points. First, you should never take your eyes off the...

    Captain's Table - Porgy Heaven!

My 2025 charter season started off with a huge bang for my loyal Porgy fans, Tony and his buddies who make the long drive from NJ several times each year. Perfect weather and light tides made for a very enjoyable and action-packed trip. All it took was one drop at a favored spot near Shelter...

    Aqualina II Charters-Moriches

Well done, Rocco. Looks like TJ has a boat he likes as much as his own! Still a little cool in the Peconics but things are starting to break open now. I will probably give local Fluke my first shot next week. Have a great season.

    I know I'm beating a dead horse

Of course, the CT boats are subject to NY regulations while fishing in our waters. But, as Overbored and many others have noted enforcement is quite lean.

    Finally splashed

No better feeling...except being tight to a feisty linesider!! Have a great and safe season, Roccus.

    Cod Shutdown?

While I have not made the run in many years, it is sad to think that summer Cod fishing at Coxes Ledge is no longer an option. I really miss that fishery.

    I know I'm beating a dead horse

Sadly, this is a very old and painful story for all the NY Anglers who feel cheated by fishing the same waters as our neighboring states that have more favorable regulations. The one that burns me the most is Sea Bass. Fishing the North Fork and eastern LI Sound I am constantly frustrated that...

    Yellow eyed demons!

Great way to start, Kevin. Plus, one of those stories that can only happen while fishing. I love it! BTW, what camera lens were you using? That Fluke looks like a keeper to me!;)
