Scoring with keeper sized Sea Bass in the eastern Sound has been a challenge up to this point. Tons of culling for only a handful of boxers so far but Mark and his uncle, Joel helped turn things around a bit today on their annual half day summer charter.
Tried one of the drops that held some...
A Penn Long Beach?? That was a "Cadillac" back in the day. Why not make it a Penn Sea Boy? Do you even know what that reel looked like?
Check Penn's archives if you really want a good laugh.:ROFLMAO:
No argument here, Overbored, about the term "extinct". Some may take the word literally, but I actually agree with you that if the numbers are so low that harvesting is almost impossible you might consider that species to be approaching extinction. Kind of like winter flounder in our NY waters...
I agree that is great to see Jenn out and joining in on the fun! I hope you let her use that Palmaryus #0 that was pretty hot at Montauk this past week!!
I have a feeling she is going to really put the hurt on the Sea Bass next week. I plan on doing some serious prospecting for you this Wednesday
Nice work, John! Gives me hope that I might finally be able to find enough keeper Sea Bass to satisfy this coming Saturday's charter.
No doubt a north wind and flood tide at the Gut can be problematic when fishing solo.
Whiting are not quite "extinct" in our area but most of the fish we have seen as a by-catch lately are too small to eat. However, they do make excellent strip baits for Fluke!
What I find particularly interesting is that for many years we only saw them in the 100' depths south of Montauk on our...
Thanks, Crabman.
BTW, I forgot to post that this trip is now filled.
I expect to have one or 2 more openings for Montauk Fluke in August and will post the spots as soon as the date is decided.
What a difference 4 days can make. Following a super solid Fluke outing to Montauk’s south side on Monday I had a high level of confidence that today’s crew of Kevin, Niki, Paul, and Depesh would enjoy similar results.
The morning started off well with a few short Fluke and Sea Bass followed...
Those are the types that often save our trips when the Bass turn off. Fight like the devil and never quit.
I had a fellow on a charter with me several years ago from the Pacific Northwest. Told me he had caught tons of salmon in the 20# + class back home but never tangled with anything as mean...
Very nice, John! I am so focused on my bucktailing when I fish for Bass that I rarely consider the top water option. Judging by your results I think I need to broaden my horizons!
For once in a very long time the weather report regarding sea conditions was wrong…in the right direction! Following 3 straight days of east winds I anticipated a pretty lumpy ocean as was the case this past Saturday while fishing with a good friend to the west. Instead after a nice calm ride...
Thanks for a very enjoyable and relaxing day, Mitch.
Not having to prep the boat, cut the bait, find the fish, filet the catch, and clean the boat really helps me unwind compared to shouldering the entire load when chartering my vessel!!
Much appreciated!
I have 2 spots filled and 2 more open for a Montauk Fluke trip scheduled for Wednesday July 30. This is prime time for a good Fluke bite on Montauk's south side.
Always a good chance at some quality Fluke here along with a good amount of fat Sea Bass as a nice by catch.
Give me a call if you...
Plenty of good advice on your electronics package so I have nothing more to offer here.
However, I know you will be absolutely thrilled with the Albin. That is the exact hull I have been running since I bought her new in late 2003. I have the flush deck model with a hard top but soft drop...
