Today’s half day charter included long term customers John and Ricky along with John’s 2 Grandsons Connor and Troy for their second annual Peconic Bay trip.
One year older and more experienced, the boys took up right where they left off last year putting the hurt on the local Porgy population...
Despite the rather soggy and breezy weather yesterday the Elias party of 4 still hung in there to make a decent catch of Scup and Weakfish on the morning charter in Peconic Bay.
Half of the crew had never fished before and missed a lot of the rather rapid Porgy bites so the guys did fall short...
Two of my long-term regulars have Saturday 6/21/25 booked for a Striped Bass/Mixed Bag
6-hour trip. Following the Bass fishing we will head back west to work on hitting our Weakfish limit, as the action for this species has recently heated up as well.
So that leaves room for 2 more anglers...
Thanks for the confirmation, John. I just wanted to be sure I was not missing something. Under similar, low traffic situations I sometimes will give myself a bit of a "running start" but that only works if the wind vs. tide situation is not too severe.
As usual you take the safe approach to...
John, I meant to ask you this question the other day. I know you own a very nice Steiger Pilot house, and I believe you fish solo most of the time. Do you have a second set of controls in the cockpit?
If not, I am curious to learn how you can power drift single handed. I sure can't do it with...
Great outing, although a little hairy with the bad weather coming in. The Bass always seem to like biting better the worse the weather gets.
I would say score this one as a big WIN-WIN for both angler and fish alike!!
No one out does your own efforts with the rod and reel, Kevin!:D
I remember reading an article many years ago about one of the editors of a well-known local fishing magazine that actually took some "time off" to throw a few lures in the surf at a blitz occurring during a friend's wedding. They...
Had the Chris party of join me today for a spring mixed bag trip under some beautiful weather conditions.
Started the morning on the ebb tide for Bass in the Gut and while the fish were there, the bite today was a bit slower than my last few outings. Still, the guys worked hard and after just a...
I'm glad you had a decent day Matt, but your post kind of makes my point.
It took a 3-day trip nearly eight years ago to come up with a decent catch. Very painful.
The risk involved with kayaks is not limited to the west. I also see far too many folks in kayaks with no high-flying Orange or other brightly colored flag on their stern to improve the visibility of these water level craft adequately.
Then to add to the insanity some folks seem compelled to...
I was actually out fishing Bass in the Race with a friend that very foggy morning. We heard the whole, horrifying incident play out on the VHF as the CG did it's best to rescue all involved. Thank God no one was lost.
It was a classic case of some dope "outrunning" the effective range of their...
I do a few kids camp trips, among others, on the Orient Star every year and it is a blast for the kids and me as well.
I too have seen some idiots fishing for Bass on Jet Skis in the Gut a few times over the years. All of your observations apply!
