The herring you get in Orient in the fall are Atlantic herring a completely different species than the alewives and blueback herring the article was referring to.
Nice summary! One minor quibble, Pat Keliher is the Chairman of the ASMFC. He addressed the members of the striped bass board at the beginning of the meeting. The chair of the striped bass board, who chaired the meeting was Dave Borden, a commissioner from RI.

Not a lot. On the NEFMC RAP there are only about 4 of us who are NOT running a charter business. On the MAFMC and ASMFC advisory panels I would guesstimate that about 1/2 of the advisors are recreational fishermen with many of them also running a charter business.
I don't get around here as much as I would like. But I'm an advisor to the MAFMC ad ASMFC for Fluke sea bass and scup, I'm an advisor to ASMFC for striped bass and I sit on the NEFMC's recreational advisory panel.
Try putting some five minute epoxy on the threads of the screws and then screw it in lightly. Tighten it up after waiting about 15 minutes. It doesn't always work, but its worth a shot before you start filling and redialing holes.
I believe I read somewhere that there has not been one death from entanglement in U.S. waters in the last two years. All of the fatalities have occurred in Canadian waters.
