Not for me. Too fast of a ratio. I'd recommend going with a Revo Winch, Revo X WInch, or my personal favorite the Daiwa Tatula 150P. All have ratios in the 5:1 range. When used for pulling bottom fish, mo' slower is mo' better.

    Blackfish Jigs and colors

I agree - color appears to be irrelevant. I have good friends that use unpainted versions and they catch as well as any painted color(s). Can I say that on a SPECIFIC day a painted jig won't do better? Nope, I cannot. But in general, it does seem that SH27 is right. Having said that, I still...

This Is Why I Will Not work on Daiwa's MQ reels

And will never own one either, for that matter. Just when you think Shimano has over-engineered their spinning reels with WAY too many parts, Daiwa comes along and says "Hold my beer!" They went away from their solid original LT reels, like the Ballistic LT and Procyon LT and went with this...

Well that was much easier than I thought. Always trust "Youtube University," "Google Grad School," and when all else fails, "The E-Pray School of Continuing Education." Just have to know what you're looking for...

I guess you didn't write the part number down, huh. I don't have any idea where I found that info, but I'll try to locate it again. Wish me luck.

    Reel Oil & Grease

Somewhere in the past I wrote a very long post on this subject. I can't find it, but try these threads for my fairly recent thoughts on the subject. Its all in there. These are individual posts from the captioned threads. If you have the inclination, click thru and read the entire threads for...

Bingo, Bongo, Bango! Really a neat little piece - arrived this afternoon. I don't really care for Beezos, but you can't question his business model. Also, I can't speak to the metallurgy of this tool, but it looks like very decent quality for five bux. I wouldn't over-tax it though. . . 'cause...

Oh right, Everol not Alutecnos. I get all those boutique Euro-reels confused. In my head they tend to merge together under the heading “But why?” 🙄

Bearing stuck on spool post problem.

Newells are particularly prone to this and I've fixed several this way. One multiple times. The absolute worst are the crushed pinion bearings in the right side plate of AVET lever-draggers. I'm always VERY careful not to lock down the drags too tightly, as this is how those bearings get...

Bearing stuck on spool post problem.

Hit it with the Free All, which I use also, or make up a solution of 1/2 Trans fluid and 1/2 Acetone (taught to me by the old-timers at the MTA Bus Garage in Bensonhurst on my old Snap-On route) and let it soak overnight. Then place the opposite side of the spool shaft on a hard surface, then...

And FINALLY I Can Close Out 2025 Took way too many days of high winds, heavy rain and two snow storms worth of deck shovel-outs, but thankfully it's finito. Got a halfway decent morning for Squiggy's to shoot over here and do the job that's been pending for weeks. Goodbye to 2025. And good...

Similar. Wait til the Spring shows. Kil should have much more to show than he had at the Edison Show last Spring, which could best be described as “sparse.”

Last of the 2025 Fresh Fish Teriyaki glaze (Giunta’s house version - I like it the best), toasted sesame oil, toasted seeds on Saturday’s catch. Broiled in our oversized toaster oven. Really simple, really great!
