    Ward Melville 2025

I've bought a few knives from "the knife guy" as well. He sometimes has the stainless ICEL 6 and 7" fillet knives from Portugal for a very few bux. An excellent alternative to the Dexter "white handles," at half the price. Highly recommended. And while we're on the subject of knives, I've...

The Pros and Cons of DAIWA's New SAMURAI 8 Braid: A Forum Discussion Starter

Thank you Roccus for your kind words. After trying many, many different braids, I've centered up on Momoi Diamond Braid Gen3 in bright orange. Thin, strong, lays out beautifully from a spinning reel, doesn't dig into itself on a baitcaster, color exhibits minimal fading after two seasons of use...

All the NEW 2025 Shimano Goodies

If you have an interest in the latest in our sport, this video will have lots of good info. And for a change, most of it is actually NOT just marketing nonsense either. This video is not for you guys that feel all the newest innovations are useless gimmicks. Of course keep using whatever tackle...

    Penn Squall Level Wind

All good John, glad to put your mind at ease. By the way, you STOLE your reel at that price. Enjoy using it!

    Penn Squall Level Wind

The reel has a disengaging levelwind mechanism. It’s supposed to disconnect from the spool when in free-spool, so to aid in casting distance w/o the “parasitic” drag of the level wind. Also good for free-dropping a tog jig, whilst using a baitcaster for that app, if that’s your thing.

Are We Ready For A $1,300 FW Bass Rod?

Well, you've seen my electronics suite. I doubt I could get $100 in total for it on the open market, LOL! A 29-yr old Raytheon radar, 14-yr old 1st-gen Lowrance HDS sonar, 25-yr old Garmin 182C plotter and a Humminbird back-up color fishfinder of undetermined vintage that I have never actually...

Are We Ready For A $1,300 FW Bass Rod?

Why the heck not? Daiwa has just released their new "Steez Real Control" line of FW bass-intended rods - carrying the heaviest cost that I've ever seen in a factory stick. https://www.tackletour.com/previewdaiwasteezrealcontrol.html It does feature some true cutting edge tech...

    Lep's Flea Market

Huh! No offers? If your wife's birthday is coming up these would make a great "package" gift. Maybe I can sweeten the pot. Buy the entire lot and I'll throw in a free whisk broom (barely used- like new condition) that I just found in the bottom of the hall closet. I'm sure she will be...

Nah, shouldn't be necessary. Just slather the blank and tape arbors well, especially the bottom of the blank and you should be G-T-G. Don't forget a generous supply of paper towels and the 91% rubbing alcohol to cut the excess epoxy paste And also to blue tape cover the crap out of your reel...

    Big Whitey

That's a great story, for sure! For the reel I recommend two additional products to get rid of the chrome schmutz. First a short submergence in this: Then a rubadubdub with this: Followed by a coat or two of the Flitz.

    Lep's Flea Market

Turning over a new leaf in 2025 and its about time, too. As much as I love Fishing and collecting fishing gear, it takes up too much of my time and I am struggling to keep up with the everyday basics such as cleaning and maintaining my home, so something has to give. I will be getting rid of my...

    Fishing Gifts

Forget the boat. You have enough friends with boats to make it redundant. Besides, right now at the end of a trip while walking off the dock you get to say "Hey Cap, she's running a little rough - please fix that before next weekend rolls around." 8-) As for fishing gifts - my fam knows better...

    Combo Chartplotter/FF??

So I just re-read the title of this thread. You want to use this as a combo plotter/FF? That I wouldn't recommend if you plan to split-screen it. Have two tiny 3.5" images next to each other would be kinda tough to use. Running with one or the other full-screened would be O.K., but as a...

Post up up your 2019/2020/2021/2022 Blackfishing Pix/Reports/Adventures/Musings

So that's it for 2024. Altogether, a somewhat underwhelming year's fishing. Fluke significantly off from years past, and as for the tog, though we had trips during which they chewed their heads off, well, the rec keepers were tough to come by off JI. Went down to the boat Christmas Eve, before...

    Combo Chartplotter/FF??

Hiya Mitch, yep, I went with a GPSMAP 743 stand-alone GPS, no FF in it. It's a really nice unit, lightening fast chart refreshing and no external antenna needed. I never thought I'd like a touch-screen unit, but having to input 400 waypoints on a touch screen is tits, compared to the endless...

    NY Mets

I think Sterns is holding off on Pete right now, because he's looking at the Japanese 1st baseman Munetaka Murakami - coming over to play in MLB next year. Hit .318 with 56 dingers in '22. Can't give Pete a long contract if they go get this Japanese 1st baseman after next season. Unless Pete is...
