Melted? Can you elaborate on that? Left in the sun? Fished, then they put away and melted? I took look at the case. Not sure how that would keep the lure integrity unless the lure was left on a hot deck in the sun and the plastic melted.

    Blackfish Jigs and colors

As I get ready for Ward Melville, it gets me thinking about what I might need. I went Blackfishing 2025 for the first time in years. I also just jigs for the first time. Usually, it was a sinker on the bottom and two hooks above. My question is about the jig color. When I went to a local shop...

    Ward Melville 2026

Can I ask, from this site: Who will be a speaker? Who will be a vendor? Of what and where? Is it too soon to ask? I'm not sure when they set the schedule.

Need a reel spooled with new braid.

Happy New Year. I need my reel spooled with new braid. Where is a good place to have this performed. in Suffolk county is preferable. I ask as the last shop I brought my reel to be spooled with braid; put insufficient backing. When I told him it was short, they insisted its fine. I like to...

    JS Company USA

Please allow me to follow up on this post. My son-in-law got me a Shimano Stradic C5000XG for Christmas. I needed a rod. I reached out to Leprechaun for suggestions. Long story short, one of the rods mentioned was the JS USA rods. I reached out to Kilsong regarding his rods. I asked if he was...

Safety at Sea - First Aid

I hear hooks are very hard metal and may not be able to be cut by regular pliers. I added a small set of bolt cutters. If someone get a hook in them, I want to be able to cut off the barb to remove it.

    Eating less popular fish

Conger eels are ugly and I do not hear many people eat them. I saw them on a Cod fishing trip. Someone told me that was the eel served in Japanese restaurants. It is served cooked. Anyone know if it is Conger eel? It may be ugly, but it tastes good when they make it.

    Eating less popular fish

I have eaten them a number of times. I would say they are definitely NOT gritty. Not sure I have ever had a “gritty” fish. If ever fry them up, and do a mixed seafood mixture, nobody will know. Someone mentioned they taste like Porgy and I think that may be true. The secret is just keeping...

    Eating less popular fish

Bergalls (Cunner) is something I used to catch way back, maybe in the 70’s 80’s. They were much bigger and numerous than I catch now. Now they are tiny. I do remember trying them. I fried them and if my memory is correct, they were good.

    Eating less popular fish

I usually do not buy books anymore. But I do go to the library a lot. My most recent book was : The Fisherman's Wife: Sustainable Recipes and Salty Stories I am enjoying it as they show you how to cook less popular fish like Sea Robins. However, they have a section on how to prepare Skate (as...
