Hey guys - the NYAngler winner has surfaced!!!! Still nothing from the YT winners so I may still just randomly pick a person or two from here as we get closer to the 22nd.
I've hosted these sub contests for 4 years now. For the first time ever, NONE of the winners have replied. I have 2 winners on YouTube and the 1 here and not a peep from anyone!!!!! I may just pick 3 random folks on short notice if I don't hear back....
Not unless the "quota" method for managing the species changes. Even with the longer season and 1/2 inch reduction, and presuming the trends of less and less fluke continues this year, I would not be shocked if we again fail to achieve the Rec quota and see another increase next year. My...
Captain Mike, I’m with Paul on this one. I only use Suffix 832 10 pound braid with about 5 feet of 30 pound floro at Cartwright, Lovers Ledge, Rocky Hill, etc and I cant tell you how many times the floro breaks instead of the braid when I get hung up.
I think for guys fishing the really big...
Nothing of value here, just sharing my excitement on getting my boat to its home dock this am from the boatyard.
Only quibble is my boat has two valves in the far corners of bilge that open and close drain scuppers. Sea Vee says some folks like to close the drain scuppers when backing down on...
My opinion only, but I know friends of mine continued to do well in the Sound in the Riverhead/Northville area til about 2017 (so a few years after Sandy). Around the same time, the fluke bite in Peconic started a precipitous fall - not sure what the root cause is (warmer water, less squid...
A buddy sent me a pic of some fluke caught in traps by Orient - a good sign to me. Had a lot of tog life Saturday in Peconic Bay but no keepers (25 to 30 shorts for a friend and I).
Hey everyone! A few of the members here know that I run a part-time fluke/tog charter business out of Greenport, Long Island (just a few hundred yards from Capt. Mike!) and also know that I have a YouTube Channel (Jigging Jerks).
Each year, I run two subscriber contests on my YouTube channel...
I’ve caught them in Peconic Bay in mid April when water temp at surface was only in the low 50s and bottom was surely cooler. I think bait presence is a more critical factor here than water temp.
Was actually fishing with John in Florida on Saturday and he had this lighter version with him. Will be a Spinner and looked and felt like a mini-version of the fluke rod. He signed off on this last prototype so hopefully will be available sometime in Spring.
Hooked up and passed the rod on 9 of the 12 keepers on my last charter. As others have said, if you’re inexperienced at tog fishing, you’ll miss a lot of fish. Its really a no win situation for a Captain…..
FWIW, I was at Block on Friday too with a Montauk charter (Elizabeth II) and we killed...
I fish Florida every year and maybe this is my bias but I wouldn’t trade the fishing I do on LI for any of that. Want the definition of boredom? Stare at kites while sail fishing for 6 hours without a single bite. Happened to me 3 straight years in the Keys and finally wised up and insisted...
Have you done the trip before? I never have but hearing from friends who have, DD fish are scarcer this year…..wonder if it’s just a cyclical thing or if it’s pressure on the fishery….
