Harbor test cruise after glue repair on my i11s...halfheartedly targeting fluke to no effect when this happened.
Same fish/tackle in open water wouldn't even make a video, but this one had me sweating bullets lol
I actually had some flex tape that Brad gave me, but I was close enough to the launch to just limp back...I ordered some fresh Hobie MEK glue and will patch it over the weekend.
I buy most of my tackle geared towards freshwater; that Shimano Expride 6'10ML is probably the best sub $300...
Korea. They also have some of the largest Olive Flounder farming operations...you can find those fish (live!) in any H Mart in the tristate area, and they look *just* like fluke.
The 7" was a great bait, as were the Belly Strips...
I don't fish teasers...but the lack of any paddle/curly tail allows the jerk shads to get much deeper on the same weight jig. I always have a few in the gulp container for when the current picks up.
Backbays and early season (cold water)...I've found the "dead action" of the Gulp Jerk Shad infinitely more effective than the more popular curly tailed models.
The 5" on a 1/8 - 3/16oz jig head is my go-to creek bait, and the larger 6" (the 7" is discontinued alas) is a perfect fit behind a...
Pretty much true of any species. A 5lb NJ smallie is a worthy PB...up on Erie 5lbers get culled lol.
"Cheating"s not the right word, but these benchmarks only mean something bc of the numbers/rarity. If a 12lb fluke on a Nantucket trip doesn't even get weighed for the pool...it's certainly not...
Thanks Larry! The biggest fluke of my life was caught there in the mid 90s, on a 1/4oz jighead tipped with one of my last dead killes...I remember the killie was tiny...
My cousin is a very proactive shore fluker...he'll hit several spots depending on tide/bites, get in his car and drive to...
Thanks Lep!
Yes, NJ, both spots get absolutely mobbed on the weekends (as you can imagine). Contrary to conventional wisdom, incoming was the biting tide...the warmer outgoing water actually shut them down.
3 days prior to the filming of this video, live killies were outfishing gulp...
My cousin jigging up a limit from shore...meanwhile I'm still stuck in freshwater mode :)
1/2oz jighead, 5" gulp grubs...all you need day in/day out for land-based flatties!
Right, as if no one compared all kinds of plastisol baits side by side with Gulp since Gulp was released nearly 20 years ago. And that's exactly what this bait is: a cheap soft plastic grub anyone can source from China, slathered in some oil-based scent like procure (except we know Procure...
George, some colors are softer than others...but since they came out last year we've been using the 5" grubs (previously exclusive to Dicks) to great effect. Much livelier action, less water resistance, and almost as big a profile as the 6". For anything from shore to 30', it's been a killer...
