Good afternoon,
After an abysmal weather period the past 15 days, I am seeing a full scale pattern change starting this weekend and lasting through all of next week. Highs in the 80s and even 90+ could occur.
Hopefully the models keep this because we need warm weather to get things going.
Fished twice for a short period on boat this weekend. 1st trip 2 bass chunked to 17 pounds.
2nd trip skunked.
Water temp dropped to 47.5 on 2nd trip (Saturday PM).
These #s are good for the way fishing is now but no offense, there were trips in 2008, 2009 and 2010 where we did 30+ keeper bass on 1 chunking trip fishing structure. The same structures that had the #s I'm listing are now de-void of life. Almost completely. Some days they yield great trips...
2002-2010, a great trip in the sound was on 1 tide, 30+ keeper bass on the right structure. A bad trip in those years was 10 keeper bass in 1 trip.
Even last year, on the right structure we had 20+ fish trips in 1 tide but they were very limited instead of widespread amount of trips. Most trips...
Hi,
The weather looks good the next 2 weeks. We are in a normal spring pattern this spring so far. Unlike last year where it was cold, miserable and snowy in March and April.
This year is a normal spring with some nice 60-70+ degree days mixed in with normal weather the other days of 50-60...
A slot would definitely reduce catch. Think about this. During July and August in Montauk and Block, countless 40”+ bass are caught and harvested. On some days, you can’t catch a fish under 36”. And some days you can’t catch a fish under 40”.
A slot of 28”-34” would reduce harvested fish big...
I’m hearing they are considering a daily limit for charter and party boats. Not a trip limit. And also a possible closure in August and September, which is pretty much the Montauk and Block big fish season.
Looking good going forward. Especially after Apr. 6th. Certainly not last years brutal April which featured record breaking snow fall and cold.
Get the boats and fishing gear ready.
