    Church Organs, ?

When I was a kid, I played piano. Even did a recital in Carnegie Hall when I was 14. The fingers no longer work well enough for that stuff. But if they did, what I wouldn't give for a crack at one of those church organs.

    Hot Hook Phenomenon?

I usually get to the boat an hour and a half before sailing time and always get the preferred spot. There's always things to do while waiting to sail.

    Coronavirus

Very strange virus. My wife was coughing and lost her senses of smell and taste so she finally agreed to go to the doctor. Her regular doctor refused to see her because she was coughing. She's now using my doctor. Anyway, she went to the emergency room. 4 hours later and a $100 copay, she...

    Hot Hook Phenomenon?

When fishing on a party boat for tog or seabass, I've noticed that your position on the boat is all important. I've figured out where the transducer is and when fishing right on top of it, I can outfish anyone, while if I'm 10 feet off the transducer, I might get nothing. From observation...

    Steeplechase Pier,

Yep. That's the size we used to catch right off the pier. Oh, for the days.

    Steeplechase Pier,

I can still taste them. One night, I couldn't even get a bite. An old Italian man was fishing next to me and my Dad and he was bailing them. He looked at my rig and said,"son, you have the wrong hooks. You have hooks with an offset. That makes the spearing hang funny. So he re-rigged me...

    Steeplechase Pier,

Exactly the way my mother prepared them. Best part was the way the spine lifted right out. No small bones.

    Steeplechase Pier,

Actually, I was thinking of whiting in the late 50's and early 60's. In 1970, I was already 22 years old, in college with no time for fishing. Where'd they go? I seem to remember something about the Russian fleet cleaning out our waters. I'm told the same thing happened to the herring...

    Steeplechase Pier,

Steeplechase pier was one of the best fishing spots when I was a kid. We lived only 3 subway stops from CI so I'd go with my dad in the dead of winter, at night, get under one of the street lamps , 4 hooks with spearing, drop straight down and almost immediately get 4 whiting. We didn't stay...

    Gas prices 2019 and beyond

The thing is, it was $4.89 on Tuesday. The tax was eliminated on Wednesday. It's still $4.89. In fact I passed a Mobil station on Sunrise and it was $4.99. It just seems fishy to me.

    Gas prices 2019 and beyond

Am I missing something here? The NY State gas tax was suspended on Wednesday and will remain suspended for the rest of the year. But in driving around Long Island yesterday and today, it seems that, if anything, gas prices have gone up. This doesn't seem logical. Call me suspicious but I'm...

    Pizza time everything pizza

I remember back in Brooklyn, 15 cents a slice and @1.25 for the whole pie. When I asked 8 slices times 15 cents is $`1.20, why is the whole pie to go $1.25. They thought for a while and then blurted out, "Oh, 5 cents for the box.

    So Who's Still Smoking Tobbacco?

July 22, 1986 was the last cigarette. I celebrate that date every year. Now I can't stand the smell of smoke but still have nightmares that I'm back to smoking and have to try to quit all over again.

Technology and the amazing machines it brings us

Where was this thing before I retired. Commuting to and from the city would have been a cinch. I can just see the traffic jams parting like the Red Sea
