Well I went out the other day and caught a decent sized Bluefish. I'm not a big fan but will eat what I catch.
I have wanted to try smoking a Bluefish and to my surprise - turned out yummy!
Recipe:
1) Brine the Fillet (Skin On) for 12-16 hours
2) Drain the Brine
3) Let sit in the fridge...
Funny - I measured it out on Google Maps...The walk for the path direct to the beach was about a 1/2 mile. If you take the path to the Jetty it's about 2/3 of a mile.
I don't care what yoou tell me - That is a long walk, plus up and down the beach...now imagine carrying a big fish back to the car
Looks like a nice bag, but a little to big to be carrying around the surf. I've tried a few different bags, but have always gone back to an Ammo back, with a couple outside pockets. Just broke the strap the other day - had that bag for almost 30 years. So I bought a similar one. Fox Ammo Bag
Made the long walk again at WE, out front to the ocean, because the fishing is better there than at Field 6. Managed a Short Fluke and a Blue, before the rain
Strong offshore wind, but the right lure made it work. Got my Fluke almost snap jigging my gulp minnow across the bottom, the Blue...
For the longest time I've used just a double surgeons loop to tie on my teasers, lately I have been losing a lot of lures as when casting or fighting a fish the line fails just below the knot. Have you found this to be true too?
I'm going back to the other loop knot even thought it's a pain...
Finally...changed the location, changed the luck. Got my First fluke of the year of the beach at RM2. He loved the orange 6 inch grub. only problem was he was a short, so I tossed him back to grow up.
I'm going on a vacation to Cancun with the family at the end of July. I'd love to take a pole and a few lures and maybe some gulp or fish bites, to fish from shore
Got a few Questions:
1) Do I need to get any type of license?
2) Is it allowed?
3) What can I expect to catch from shore?
I'll...
After weeks of running down to see what was out there - I finally got the first few bites on Monday. ONLY BITES....But it was nice to feel something pull back and not just drag up seaweed.
Hopefully by next weekend the fish will start to move in and I'll actually have a chance at catching
Bought a new pack of 5 in mullet gulp. Had a hard time keeping it on the hook, even with a bait holder hook,
the plastic is just so soft, it has no bite to stay on. Had to reset it each time and pray it stayed on.
It's great if you hook it through the nose, but if you run teh hook...
Back at it at Field 6 at JB. Strong north wind, but pretty flat considering. a Beautiful perfect fish catching morning - OR NOT!
What I want to know is where are you all catching fish, - asking rhetorically - I have not seen anything being caught by me. All the reports say there are fish. I...
So after getting skunked last week I had to try again! - SAME RESULTS - I threw a glow bucktail - tipped with gulp a 6 in fish bites grub a deadly dick a pink bucktail and a paddle tail - Not even a bite. Granted the surf was a little rough with the north wind blowing up the waves... But the...
Have an Older Daiwa Ballistic 3000SH, That they needed some new drag washers
I called diawa directly at (562) 375-6800 and spoke with a nice customer service rep and told her I needed a new drag washer kit. Gave her the part numbers and she looked them up and said they stopped making parts...
Hit the open beach around 3 on 5/7 Think the tide was coming in. Wind out of the South probably about 10mph. Threw a Jig with a fish bites curly tail grub and a green Deadly Dick for a couple of hours. think I may have had a couple short bites, but nothing for the most part. Still feels...
Went down to the construction dock after the rain just about noon. Had something I wanted to try blackfishing. Wanted to try and Float rig with a gulp crab, almost like a dropper rig. Hoping to keep the gulp crab, just above the rocks and stay out of the snags. Think It would have worked...
Hit all 3 yesterday around 3PM.
Green Island:
Lots of guys and gals fishing the pier. Really not much room, walked around, didn't see anyone pull up a fish or any in the buckets. Walked to the West and tossed a bucktail in the channel...nothing
Field 10:
Walked around the piers bouncing a...
Question for you guys, anyone ever tried using a float road out on the surf when the wind is light and the wave action small. Was thinking of giving it a shot to see if it's even possible?
