Bearing stuck on spool post problem.

this is a very common problem on the Newells. when I encounter this issue-if all other suggestions fail- you may need to use a Dremel with a cutting blade to cut through the bearing, being careful to not go so far through that you damage the shaft. once you get about 3/4 of the way through the...

    Adding AC/Heat

morning Matty. happy new year I have AC on the pursuit. no generator so I only run it when im plugged in. it really is a nice option when we sleep on the boat while tied up in a marina. I've never tried to run it with a generator but it really doesn't draw as much as you would think so the...

    North Star

I am thinking optimistically but we may see a comeback with the Macks. it seems there is no shortage of them up north - which might mean their migration pattern changed and they've been bypassing our area. there was a short run of mackerel in the sound this season and this fall we had some...

    Returnemright - Barotrauma

hey Matt. thanks for the info. im sure it would be beneficial up here on Long Island-especially for releasing seabass. its amazing to me how few people use a venting tool. its a simple procedure. equally amazing to me is that most local tackle shops don't even sell venting tools!

Photos - Your Chariot - Your Ride

hey Matt. of course you should have a boat down south. why just have one headache (the boat) when you can have two headaches(two boats). every time someone comments on the fact that I have two-i just roll my eyes while thinking about all the expense and "boat owner anxiety"!

    Garmin vs Simrad

hey Matty. mike Zullo here. good luck with the purchase. hope all goes well. as you know the kind of fishing I like to do my electronics mean everything. when upgrading the electronics on my current boat I had the same dilemma. I went with all Garmin and I have no regrets. feel free to reach...

thanks for the heads up. though I need another fishing pole like I need a hole In my head. of course I couldn't resist. I ordered another GRPJC66M. i have the same one coupled with a saltiga 15. plenty of fun jigging seabass in the deeper areas. the rod is rated at 40 lbs-im sure it would...

    Combo Chartplotter/FF??

you will not go wrong with a Garmin 74 sv. very good unit and incredibly easy to work. I put one on my boat as a "back up" unit to go with a 12" Garmin 7612. the 74 sv works as well as the much more expensive 7600 series (now the 8600 series)

    Newell Reels

the newell 220 and 229 are fantastic bottom fishing reels-though they certainly aren't quiet and smooth like todays high end reels. you are correct that todays reel retrieves are all way too fast for much of our local bottom fishing (especially blackfish). the low speed 220's are fantastic...

    Boat evaluation?

you're correct about a pilothouse or an enclosure being appreciated during the fall fishing. like I said in an earlier post I have a 22'CC that is a very easy boat to fish but on the cold windy fall days I have a bigger boat with an enclosure that I use and the difference is notable. I stand by...

    Boat evaluation?

wow. I also have an older 22' boat that I repowered with a Yamaha 250, and I am very happy with that decision. you offered 16K-which I think is VERY generous. I am shocked that an offer like that was turned down but I guess the owner feels he can do better- good luck to him! I agree that a...
