Pete, those look like the type of hooks I prefer for tog. Think they'd hold up? If they duel to a draw with Gammies, I'd be hesitant using them for blackfish. But willing to investigate if you give them the thumbs-up! I'm pretty set on my fluke hooks though.
I'll see you on March 14th, if you...
Joe, I'll take the silver reel with the blue spool. These reels are so much better than anything you could buy in the store! This will be my SEVENTH Lep conversion reel! They are my absolute favorite TOG BUSTERS!!!
That's the one....After seeing it, I have to agree. It will be way too much for my Daiwa. I think I'll be sticking with the paddle handle.
If you have no other use for it, it might find a home on one of my Daiwa Lexa 300's.
Waiting to hear back from Big Joe about lunch in Freeport on Saturday ?
If there's one thing I have plenty of it's sexy fishing rod & reel combos!
When Joe (Flukinit) comes over to hang out, have dinner and watch hockey with me, he spends half the night investigating my gear to see what he's gonna buy / build next!!
Pete is right. The reel was never a good fit for the rod I bought it to match up with. I had Capt. Richie build me a CTS BS 702 and we cut some off the tip of the blank to make it more suitable to jig deep fluke with up to 5 or 6 ounces of lead. I had also hoped to use it for jigging tog. It...
FOR SALE: DAIWA HARRIER ROD HRJ 64MHB - LIKE NEW CONDITION!
As implied, the rod is 6' 4" - The rod is perfect for jigging up to 6 ounces for fluke. I would say that it's also an excellent rod for sea bass too, but I have not used it for that purpose.
Paired up with a Shimano Tranx 150, this...
As Pete mentioned, we made our annual sojourn to the NJ Fishing Expo this past Saturday. It had been a few years since we were able to attend due to Covid shutdowns of the show in 2021 & 2022. We look forward to making the trip, hanging with good friends, getting to see some new tackle...
Flukinit-
I had spoken to Skinner about making his rod for us guys who are vertically challenged (like myself) and feel extremely uncomfortable with rods in excess of 6'6". He mentioned how he thought the 6'8" rod was the perfect length for "what he does." I suppose that is true...But maybe...
Okay, so I like the wraps. Don't like the Gimbal butt. Like the grips. Don't like the large first guide, but that I'd have to see in person to make a better determination. 8 casting versions is nice. Plenty of choices. I'm not a spinning type guy, so those are useless to me.
The Z-Man DieZel...
Geezus Pete...You've had some idle time these last few days huh? This is WAY TOO MUCH info for a semi-retired fisherman like me to ingest, but I did take a look at that rod with the VERY peculiar "pistol grip" and I wonder how many rounds that magazine holds...Never seen anything like it, nor...
I bought my 1st spool of Berkley X9 back in the summer of 2019 to spool my Abu Revo Gen3 for heavier fluke appilcations. I went with 15# test and the color white. I liked the line immediately and had planned to spool at least one of my blackfish reels with 30# test. I'm pretty sure my...
I have a recently built Calstar XL that would look AWESOME with that reel aboard. Matches perfectly.
From what I can see online, the reel won't be available until spring. That could mean early April or late May.
Let's see what I can get sold before then to "finance" the purchase....
