Glad we were able to get out to the WM show in retrospect - since they cancelled the Edison Show! Hung out with a motley crew of tackle lunatics that never seem to have enough gear and then realize they have too much (something I've always been guilty of myself!). Like Big Joe (Flukinit)...
So, I was able to locate the package for those Trokar hooks I mentioned having. I sometimes save the packaging/label/tag for items I use (especially after I've tested and approved of them), so I don't forget what they are.
This particular hook is called the "Big Nasty" and I'm guessing that...
Pete, I was only confirming the Trokar hook is a quality hook (in my experience). I'm sure the hook you spoke about above is a new model. The hooks I'm using were purchased a few years ago.
I'll check and see if I have any packaging for them when I get home. It's doubtful, think they're all...
Been using those Trokar hooks for tog for a few seasons now. They are very sturdy hooks and sharp as hell. Never saw or heard of one breaking.
Some hooks have a tendency to "turn in" at the very point which is an absolute no-no when hunting monster tog. It's not something that most guys...
I looked at those rods at the Jersey show with Lep and came to the same conclusion. They are too "soft" to set hooks with 4 & 5 ounces of lead in 90 feet of water and they don't allow for the proper action those jigs need to be effective.
Like Pete said, if they made a few blanks more suited...
FULL DISCLOSURE: I recently saw this topic being bandied about on FB and thought it would be interesting to hear the opinions of NY Angler members.
So, what are your thoughts regarding guys that make long road trips to catch trophy fish away from their "local" fishing locales? Some of the guys...
NYSharpie (Frank), I just realized, we took a ton of video last night...But no pictures
So, as stated above, Frank & I fished JBay for some bass last night. Finding bunker was easy, they were all over but hunkering down in deeper water, out of effective range of the cast net...
Okay, it's been over a month since I last posted here in this thread. I was hoping that in that month I would have a bunch of great bass trips to speak of here with you guys but that simply has not been the case. The weather has put a considerable crunch on my bass fishing opportunities with...
I caught exactly TWO keeper fluke this spring so far! One was a fish nearing 6 lbs. and the other was about 20." Now, that being said, I've only been out fluke fishing twice thanks to the fantastic weather we've had. Water was as high as 56 degrees when I fished. I think the warmer water...
Mark, some thoughts on your "thoughts"
1. Clam belly striper fishing is not something I've done with any regularity. Many years ago (mid 90's) when I used to frequent the Hampton scene (my younger - wilder days), I had an opportunity to fish with the father of a young lady I was...
Over the course of the 30+ years I've been targeting bass here in Jamaica Bay, we have seen our ups & downs with the fishery. For quite a few years we had great success, but I'd say in that 30 years, we had more ho-hum years than anything else.
Back in the old days we targeted the majority...
Big Joe (Flukinit) is one helluva "WHEELER DEALER" boys!
Joe, you should start your own fishing gear Flea Market website...You make Monty Hall very proud.
