“Maybe the biggest offending comms (Virginia and North Carolina) would changer their ways if the winter spawn period is outlawed.”
Why……. do you think they will abide by the regulations if they ban the offshore winter commercial fishery?
Maybe the regulations need to be changed, but I think...
I get the impression that you would just prefer no regulations, and we go back to the wild Wild West free-for-all.
I don’t fish for food, and I’m not alone. For me, the food aspect of fishing is a nice perk, but not why I do it.
I would have to think that if the size of keeper Fluke was lowered to 14” there would have to be an offset that would reduce both the season length, and the quantity per angler.
Keep in mind too that a 14” Fluke would yield approx. 1/2 pound of fillets……. and that’s if you are really good...
I think the larger size limit has to due with the shear numbers of recreational fishermen, and the impact we would have to the fishery.
It is estimated that there are over 2 million saltwater anglers just between NY and NJ.

That was not the point of my post. The point was that perhaps the reason they had to steam north to Massachusetts to find the fish was that the fish had moved north due to climate change.
This is an unknown but I don’t think commercial Fluke fishing from the NC boats up in Massachusetts had...
Some of what he says makes sense to me, and some of it does not.
Here’s one that doesn't makes too much sense to me………
“now that the commercial NC Fluke draggers go all the way to Massachusetts”
Why do they travel to Massachusetts from North Carolina? Could the lack of fish in NC possibly be...
