    Opening Day

My buddy Joe invited me on his south shore boat for opening day. The forecast was right about the stiff morning breeze but the seas were not that bad. As predicted, the wind died out by noon. we had action most of the day, putting 4 keepers in the boat to 19.5" for a nice start to the south...

    When you have the urge

So now the next time you go out, you can go straight to that spot before the JJ gets there. As a pool winner, I'm sure James will be so happy to see you there! LOL keep your life jacket on! Nice job with the pool fish.

NH fisherman reels in 1,116lb BFT

I cannot conceive of a reason you would throw out an anchor in the middle of a fight and risk wrapping the anchor line or the fish taking a reel spilling run. How deep were they? why bother dealing with an anchor?

    Reel EZ Newport

We had a pretty good day on the Reel EZ yesterday. Boat limit in the early morning, then catch and release. I had the 5 biggest at 8.25-9.25 Lbs. , all on a jig and all released.

    Fluke Season 2026 Analysis

Let me throw some more experiences out there. I so not believe that there is a substantial fluke dragging industry in the central Sound, but maybe there is. I don't know how much fluke travel from year to year, but I suspect it's not much. or maybe I'm wrong For 2-3 years we had a month of lock...

NOAA Fisheries - What’s new, what are they responsible for……

Organized crime is often the reason we can't have nice things. I remember when Giuliani subpoenaed the Market and it very quickly burned down. They rebuilt it, but there was really no longer a reason to keep it downtown, as the fish was coming in by truck not boat, so they moved it to the Bronx...

    Do they think we're idiots!

How do you "Save the Whales" folks feel about this change in rule enforcement. The old interpretation was designed to encourage ships to take extra care when whales are around. The new interpretation seems to permit even reckless behavior as long as it is not intentional: "In what would be a...

Post your 2019-2025 Fluke Pix & Trip Reports Here!

I fished the Miss Montauk yesterday. Pretty slow day. Difficult drifting conditions. Some anglers were skunked. A few had limits. It became a long hot day bouncing heavy sinkers in very deep water. What instantly lifted my spirits was after mate Anthony suggested I check my fish for the pool and...

When you are a kid, you don't want to stand out. All the other kids in Queens had these boots. After they got to elementary school, theycould take them off and walk around in sneakers. Being from an outdoorsy family, I had a pair of LL Bean duck boots. I would feel like an alien all day...

    Western Sound Fluke

My buddy Wayne and I bounced around various spots from 20 to 50' deep in the Western Sound yesterday morning. We had about 20 total, with 4 or 5 over 18 and 1 just over 19, with some micros mixed in. No bait, just gulp. All my gulp survived to fish another day! '
