Captain's Table - Tog Charters Begin!

The wind has to slow down at some point...right?

    Last minute decision

Very nice results for a short effort. I actually cancelled today's charter figuring with a wind vs. tide situation most of the day it would be very hard to properly position the boat using traditonal ground tackle and not swing too much. When I got up this morning at home it looked like the...

Captain's Table - Tog Charters Begin!

First Tog charter of the season yesterday and the crew of Matt, Anthony, Nick, and the venerable Chef Nader joined me for and excellent start to our season. Of course, the trip begins with the dreaded NE breeze which made the trip across the sound a little choppy but nothing to deter these...

11/7 Split Charter Opening on Captain's Table

A rare weekend opening for one spot has come up for my Saturday, 11/7 Blackfish charter. Three of my long-time regulars are already signed up and there is room for one more angler. Excellent time of the season to be targeting Tog on the North Fork. Give me a call if you want to hop aboard...

Captain's Table - Finally Tog Season

Had a chance to do a little prospecting with my mate Tom today. Hit just a couple of local drops in the Sound for Tog and the action was red hot with multiple limits taken, ORL No real brutes yet but a couple of healthy fish in the 5# class. Bodes well for the start of my fall charter season...

    Tekota 500

I still have a pair of 500's I use regularly and have not had any problems getting parts form Shimano. You should be receiving your order soon.

    Opening tog

Tough to fish Tog properly when the wind has you spinning like a top at anchor. As usual, we are all hoping for better conditions, which will help the improve the catch.

Captain's Table - Bass on Bass

Today’s fantastic fall weather found Mike, his wife Claudia, and friend Nick join me for a half day trip targeting mainly Sea Bass with the hope of adding a Striper to the overall catch. With a very short window to bottom fish due to the strong New Moon tides we arrived on a favorite drop north...

    Over It

Outstanding job, Mitch. Those are some serious Stripers! It will be interesting to see if the bite turns on again for us in the Gut this Saturday. After we finish Sea Bass fishing that's what my crew wants to find...along with the elusive Bluefish!? Never thought I would be saying that.

what will the storm do to the fishing?

I wouldn't call the action I saw explosive but it was nice and steady. First trip after the Nor’easter and I should have guessed the fish that enjoys the rough stuff the most showed up in good numbers today. For the middle 2 hours of flood, I decked 6 Bass in the Gut with a chunky 29” taking...

what will the storm do to the fishing?

I spoke with a few of my friends today fishing the eastern Sound and as expected bottom fishing was still off a bit. However, they did report a decent bite on Bass and Blues. I plan to do a little prospecting myself tomorrow and will let you know if things have rebounded.

Fatty Cod??? And I don't mean fat looking fish, I mean a cod with a ton of fat in its gut

First, I am happy to see that Bob Skinner's creations are still slaying the fish throughout the Northeast! With the declining stocks and increasingly tougher regulations, I have not been Cod fishing for many years now. On rare occasions we still see a stray caught on some of our Tog trips in...

    Captain's Table - Bottom Bonanza

Yesterday’s superb weather and excellent sea conditions set the stage for an excellent day of bottom fishing in the eastern LI Sound. On board were Vinnie, his friend Jason, along with Frank Jr. and Frank Sr. (aka ‘the Legend’). Headed north of Plum I. for some drifting in about 65=80’ of water...
