Some jigs have an eye too small for that. A snap or clip connector should make no difference at all as long as it is heavy enough not to open. In my head I know it won't make a difference, but somehow I feel like it does. I tie with a clinch knot. I use 60, so I do 4 twists, not 6. it does not...
Great day, great weather. Life on almost all stops, which ranged from 18 to 40'. All producing equally well.
The biggest fish came on one of the least productive spots, and may have been the only fish pulled from that spot, just as I was deciding to leave.
23" and 6.5 pounds. She put up quite a...
Thanks Matt
I whole heartily recommend "Cod" by Mark Kurlansky. It's concise and to the point.
For 500 years, this fish helped feed the western world and drive the New England economy, but in 50 years, we f'd it all up.
Like me, you probably learned history from the perspective of the fur...
Saturday I had two friends to help build a bite.
We headed to the North shore of Lake LI Sound and started out in 35' with two keepers to 20", then constant action but the fish got small.
Went East and spot number two in 25 feet. Started strong, then quickly turned into nothing but tiny pecks...
My buddy Joe invited me on his south shore boat for opening day. The forecast was right about the stiff morning breeze but the seas were not that bad. As predicted, the wind died out by noon.
we had action most of the day, putting 4 keepers in the boat to 19.5" for a nice start to the south...
So now the next time you go out, you can go straight to that spot before the JJ gets there. As a pool winner, I'm sure James will be so happy to see you there! LOL keep your life jacket on!
Nice job with the pool fish.
I cannot conceive of a reason you would throw out an anchor in the middle of a fight and risk wrapping the anchor line or the fish taking a reel spilling run.
How deep were they? why bother dealing with an anchor?
We had a pretty good day on the Reel EZ yesterday. Boat limit in the early morning, then catch and release.
I had the 5 biggest at 8.25-9.25 Lbs. , all on a jig and all released.
Let me throw some more experiences out there.
I so not believe that there is a substantial fluke dragging industry in the central Sound, but maybe there is.
I don't know how much fluke travel from year to year, but I suspect it's not much. or maybe I'm wrong
For 2-3 years we had a month of lock...
Organized crime is often the reason we can't have nice things. I remember when Giuliani subpoenaed the Market and it very quickly burned down. They rebuilt it, but there was really no longer a reason to keep it downtown, as the fish was coming in by truck not boat, so they moved it to the Bronx...
How do you "Save the Whales" folks feel about this change in rule enforcement. The old interpretation was designed to encourage ships to take extra care when whales are around. The new interpretation seems to permit even reckless behavior as long as it is not intentional:
"In what would be a...
