    Sticky steering advice

I could really use some advice, my 2009 115 Optimax steering is very stiff. I removed the steering cable and found the trouble to be the motor's pivot tube. You tube shows this as being a very costly repair at the mechanics shop. I was hoping I might acquire some sound advice that could help me...

    Powder painting lead jigs

Well with bucktails at 4-5 bucks a piece spending $40 for a mold doesn't take to long to break even if you've got the lead. For me its just one more fun thing to do between seasons.

    Powder painting lead jigs

I didn't know John's dad had passed, or that he sold Terminal tackle. Thats where I purchased my do-it molds to make my leadheads. The jigs I've been banging out are the Ultra Minnows (Spro look alikes) 1/2 - 4oz (2 separate molds) and the Smiling Bills 1/8-3/4oz. Its a bit of a ride for me but...

    Powder painting lead jigs

I've never used liquid paint only the powder paint and I heat my jigs up with a heat gun not a torch. They never get near to melting just hot enough to melt the powder paint after being dipped. After dipping I hang them on a dowel to cool. When I've finished painting a batch I put them into a...

    Powder painting lead jigs

I picked up some nice skirts at the Ward Melville show to try on my leadheads, like you mentioned its a different way to dress the jig instead of bucktail. I'll tell ya, using a fluid bed to aerate the powder paint really allows you to put a thin, even layer of paint on the jig. I get it, you...

    Powder painting lead jigs

Sooo I've got a couple of questions regarding powder painting leadheads for bucktails. I made myself several fluid beds (diffetent colors) which makes it seem like dipping the heated leadheads into liquid paint, beautiful even coat of paint. I use a small length of wire the size of the hook eye...

    Tightening up screw holes

Thanks DT, I purchased a large amount of Marine Tex from Amazon (forgot how many ounces). I was planning on doing the teak on my boat for the first time in many years. Aside from the look not lasting through the full season the other reason I got away from doing it was each time I remove the...

    Tightening up screw holes

Just about everything that screws into my boat is loose. A lot of the screws cannot be tightened up because the holes are worn and the threads wont grip. Has anyone used Marine Tex to fill screw holes and then re-drilled them? I'm curious if its too brittle after it dries to drill new holes so...

    Raising wobble roller assembly?

Perhaps its time to replace some of those rollers. I purchased a bunch from Eastern Marine at $6.30 a piece (Yates) and after changing them out I now have to tye the bow cleat to the winch post just to remove the winch hook. Boat flies off the trailer (20'er). Not saying you don't properly...

Is there any news if the floating docks are in the water at Brookhaven ramp sites?

    Docks at launch ramps?

Does anyone have any information regarding the floating docks at Forge river and Port Jefferson ramps? Not sure if the town crews are placing them in the water do to the restrictions on 'necessary projects'.

    Saltwater jig tying vise

So I have decided this was a great purchase, especially for a novice. Since I don't know what I'm missing using a much more expensive jig vise I'm more than satisfied with my $65 vise. Side note, it holds an 8/0 hook just fine. :-)

    Saltwater jig tying vise

Thanks, I may look into that if the time come when this clamp gives up the ghost.

    Saltwater jig tying vise

So I received the vise this week, it does use plastic as it's main building component. The height adjusting shaft is metal, as are the jaws that hold the hook. The jaws hold the hook tightly (that's the main thing). The C clamp is plastic (a bit of a concern), my opinion is this vise will work...

    Saltwater jig tying vise

Thanks flounder joe, I decided to try the Riverruns II generations rotary fly tying vise ($65). I read it's uses a lot of plastic which turns a lot of people off but reviews say it uses metal where it counts (like the jaws) which will accommodate hooks up to 7/0 (and 8/0 I hope). For the cost I...

    Knots to bucktails

it's always difficult to fish for Fluke in Moriches bay in the Springtime, there is just sooo much weed and of course slipgut. My experience has been it really has little effect what knot you tye or how you present your bucktail, that slipgut will wrap itself around everything it comes into...

    Knots to bucktails

Why not just an anglers clip, theres room for extra jig movement and the benefit of easy on easy off.

    Saltwater jig tying vise

I read a post from a member hoping for a little help with purchasing a vise to tye bucktail jigs (hooks as large as 5/0). He mentioned he didn't have much of a budget and was trying to find a decent entry level model that he could get started on. I looked at some of the suggestions and quite...
