Armed with 4 dozen greens and 2 tubs of clam from Duffys B&T, sailed with a new friend who fishes with me on the Montauk Star. Sailed from Oyster Bay to Rye Playland area on Saturday in my 69 13' Boston Whaler. In a 1' chop coming straight from the west made for a bit of a tough ride for my...
Hit the JJ on Monday. Harbor was flat. Started off of The CG station near the rip there. Slow but steady pick of fish. After about an hour, someone hit the switch on the fan. Captain took us off Ashroken and then eventually inside near Sand City. Fish bit throughout the day...
Saw a report from an Ocean City MD site and they mentioned someone actually tried for fluke this past week and caught 2 in 51degree bay water. I'm not familiar with fluking in the Chesapeake or Ocean City area but think that this is a good sign for our upcoming season. I've always targeted...
So, I am somewhat new to kayak fishing having only been out approximately 10 times in the LIS this year on my recently purchased Hobie Quest. Don't know why or what I did but I leaned a bit to my right to look at something approximately 1/2 mile off of Centre Island this past weekend. My...
Years ago, the PB's would fish for fluke on opening day and while the bite was slow compared to summertime the big fish were always pulled early in the season. I have seen great bites out of Mattituck the 2nd week of May. I would say the water temperature in that area is not nearly as big...
The concern with any aquarium raised fish is that you will introduce disease to the wild stock if released. I think that was the point trying to be made. This is why many in the natural sciences are reluctant to release pen raised fish into the wild.
If you have a frost free freezer any fillets will get the moisture sucked right out of them in no time. I bought a stand alone freezer that is not frost free and it makes a big difference in shelf life.
Unless you are fishing all day and fishing all the tides I think it is hard to gauge how well the fluking is. Based on the various reports I am seeing it seems that the fluke have made a decent showing so far with respectable sized fish. The bite changes day to day. Last year everyone was...
Lot of guys bashing commercial fishermen here..... While I oppose drag nets etc... all of us recreational fishermen owe a big thanks to commercial guys who were the ones that got foreign commercial fleets off our coasts decades ago.
Years ago when the show was only a few seasons old I was in the Outer Banks fishing. We sailed from the same dock where they film he buying scenes of WT. I asked if the show was legit and referenced the episode where Marciano slammed the boat into the bridge. I thought that scene was...
Thanks Capt, the reason I ask if you are the mate is I was curious how tipping works on a boat like yours. I don't mean to come across wrong here, I always tip 20% to the mates but if you as owner are running the boat solo, are you still expecting a tip. What is customary on such a trip?
I'll join. Pretty much any day will work for me. midweek or weekend. Would prefer mid to late May as captain indicated regarding the bite. Just curious Capt are you the mate as well?
Tried one last shot for fluke on Saturday. Arrived into Star Island Marina and the flags were not moving at all. Sailed around the point and was greeted by a beautiful sunrise. Had high hopes. Started fishing during a total slack tide with some fish coming over the rails...
