Rigging blackfish jigs - seeking suggestions

I always liked that rod. Have had it for a few years now. Sensitive enough tip, at least for me, that I could see most of the taps I was getting.

Rigging blackfish jigs - seeking suggestions

All in all an incredible day. More than made up for last year's 3 wind cancellations. Had one jig leader breakoff. Hooked new leader on swivel to clip in seconds. I did appreciate how quickly that got me back on the bottom.

Rigging blackfish jigs - seeking suggestions

Thanks again for all the responses. For my trip Wednesday, I decided to go with the coastlock snaps and pretied leaders with barrel swivel one end and loop on the other. It’ll be a departure for me as up till now I’ve used less hardware at the expense of having to do more knot tying for jig...

Rigging blackfish jigs - seeking suggestions

Thank you everyone for the detailed responses! I’m going to re-read through them all and go from there. I’m looking forward to trying them out Wednesday with Captain Mike.

Rigging blackfish jigs - seeking suggestions

Getting prepared for a couple of trips with a great boat/captain in Greenport. I was hoping to get some insight into how others set up line, leader and blackfish jigs. I ask because I’m interested in learning if I could do something differently to allow quicker or easier jig changes. I’d want to...

    Winter Fishing Gloves

I have similar gloves from a different manufacturer. Half finger but they also have a mitten top that you can flip on and off. Worked great and the natural wool kept hands pretty warm.

    Keeper fluke - finally!

Took advantage of a day off of work and the nice weather to take another ride out to the AB reef solo. Was looking to spend only a couple of hours there. Just a handful of boats in the area. Drift speed was just right. Went over a mark that has been giving up fish most of the summer, all short...

Post your 2019-2025 Fluke Pix & Trip Reports Here!

So true. I’ve come to accept that keepers are going to be far and few between for me. Whether it is the state of the fishery or lack of skill (I hope not!), I’ve adjusted my expectations. More than enough gets spent on dockage, repairs, maintenance, etc…, but those days on the water are well...

    World Cup 2026

It was a great match to watch. Had a lot of exciting elements to it: Home field advantage/loud fans, skillful goals, penalty kicks, awesome goalie saves, rain, an almost brawl

Capt. Neil Passed Away Last Night

I met Capt. Neil just once. He was at the Sayville farm stand selling tickets for the Long Island Cares raffle he was organizing. We spoke for about a half hour, talking about people and places we both knew. In just that short time, I could tell he was a kind, sincere person. The kind I would...

I asked “where can I find fluke near East Rockaway inlet?”. The responses were from the Rockaway section.

I really enjoy this tournament. The Germany win was pretty exciting (unless your an Ivory Coast fan).

Really impressive. I can use surrounding area reports, but any chance of adding an East Rockaway/Deb’s inlet section?

Better than a good day at work

Gave my staff the day off and chartered the Freeport Gem on the mile for a half day. Beautiful weather. Just a short ride to the Fundy Bay Area. The 17 of us tallied around 50 fluke, including 3 keepers. Had my season best 20.5” fish. Lots of smiles, getting home at noon helps too I’m sure.

    NBA Basketball

"it's safe to assume some level of chaos will unfold in the streets yet again" They were right, unfortunately. Knicks lose, chaos. Knicks win, chaos. Why?
