Review by 'Roccus7' in article 'The Striped Bass YOY Index: From Crystal Ball to Statistical Failure'

I already wrote a partial review, never should have been published. The "important graphs" have absolutely no correlation to the points that HAL says they make. A new low in AI-generated material. The YOY studies from the Chesapeake only tell the managers how many fish spawned and made it...

Comment by 'Roccus7' in article 'The Striped Bass YOY Index: From Crystal Ball to Statistical Failure'

George: Before I go on, this was AI generated correct? Now the warning, never send a scientist a statistical study without expecting some detailed feedback, especially one that finds AI abhorrent. What was your purpose for this "Dep Dive"? Besides the cheesy, unrelated photo like the one...

How about correcting the picture of the European Sea Bass with an actual striped bass??

Comment by 'Roccus7' in article 'Do You Want a Saltwater Fishing License in New York?'

No dog in this fight, but I'm thinking anyone in favor is ONLY in favor if the fees collecting went back into Saltwater Fishing, and not in Albany's Blackhole, the "General Fund". Will listen to the podcast, but thinking this is already a done deal...

When it comes to striper regs, we have no sympathy nor love for those who don't follow the rules. Guess it comes from being at the end of the migration. We only catch bass that can get past the other states, so we expect that everyone toes the line... One of many clueless idiots who have no...

Comment by 'Roccus7' in article 'NYSDEC Talks Fishing Regulations for 2021'

My cynical side would like to point out that since the retirements of Byron and Chet, NYDEC has become a cadre of computer console jockeys, totally reticent to actually going out into the field and getting their hands dirty. Did you know that fish gurry is "icky stuff!!" ;)

Yup, and they’re asking for individual anglers to also provide data. Let’s see if NY does the same and becomes active participants instead of sitting on the sidelines.

OK, so if we use this logic, with the GW Bridge as the "DMZ" for some bass regulations, it could easily "pick up" additional ones like using the Fresh Water Natural Bait definition above the bridge and having a separate, more realistic one for "Natural Marine Baits" under the bridge, correct...

Comment by 'Roccus7' in article 'NYSDEC Talks Fishing Regulations for 2021'

You know what disturbed me the most @george? How he said they didn't want 2 different bait regs, between Hudson River and the coast because it would be confusing for the ECOs. Well DUH, the fish regulations are different from above and below the GW bridge, so his "concerns" are totally unfounded.

I'll chime in too. Besides never catching a bass on a bucktail w/pork rind that was gut hooked in the Gut, Sluiceway and Race, I have another "fact". Many moons ago I used to use yellow pork rind with an attached hook as a trailer on trolled Tony Aceta Pet Spoons, yeah I AM an old fart. Of...

Somehow George, I don't think we're talking about potential Saints here so no need for a Devil's Advocate. As part of this process a person called a “devil’s advocate” raises questions and objections to the candidate’s sainthood to make sure all aspects of the person's life is examined. A...

    Striped Bass

Am I Fishing for Stripers or Largemouth Bass? NY Angler regulars know me and my “eccentricities”, but for those of you unfamiliar with me, my NYA handle is Roccus7 and I live and fish along Maine’s magnificent Midcoast. I cut my teeth on striper fishing on LI’s North Shore from Stony Brook to...
