    New Dark Matter Rod

A shortie spinner is my go to rod for Striper jigging and tossing swim shads from a Party Boat. You can really fling 'em underhand better than with a longer rod

They freeze and refreeze very well. The darker pieces need trimming but it's no big deal given the cheap cost....

Best Fluke Bait This Season Hopped on a Belmar NJ party boat yesterday b4 the storms, glad I did. They were hungry and hooking themselves (love when they inhale the bottom jig). I was the only one on the boat using Salmon skin strips and I was easily high hook. Mates were skeptical that it...

    Need party boat recommendation please

Many thanks Ally and Bachala. We may do twilight mixed bag if not the full day trip.... BTW, Amanda on Osprey is The Bomb, they spend winter in Atlantic City togging and I love their operation...

    Need party boat recommendation please

My buddy is visiting LI and I hope to meet him on Thursday to get out on a party or open boat for whatever is biting best. Half day, full day, evening doesn't matter, I just need to learn what boat to patronize or avoid, Captree preferred. I'll have tackle , gulp, rigs, etc for us trying to...

When I lived on LI I had a boat in the Sound. Since I moved to NJ 40 years ago I have something better - friends' boats! I'm the same age as you Pete and we both yearn for that tug. My crew (all older than me!) depend on me to get the boat prepped and tucked in b4/after every trip. It's my...

Good conditions = good fluking. Long, repeatable drifts over productive NJ bottom today was the key, we never left the area. My 3 biggest went 22, 23, 24". Salmon belly was bait of the day, inshore of 65', outgoing tide, water temp 72*, nice seabass too !

What's your opinion on the new fishing reports?

I may've posted this on Noreaster but can't find it now,,,, I love the new reports! There is such specific local knowledge others may call it spot-burning, I call it helpful. I'm thrilled that the NJ reports are broken down by region and not lumped onto one. Inshore vs offshore is also a nice...

As this site transitions to a more regional perspective ( Noreaster states vs NY only) , animosity is not appropriate Mitch. I post here because I fish NY waters in Raritan Bay. I also fish LI waters when visiting friends and family. The NJ regs are more favorable than NY's due to NY's...

NJ Ocean Fluking improves We had 36 keepers up to 27" on Sunday for 12 fares. You had to stay at the rail all day to get rewarded. There was one 15 minute stretch where everyone was hooked up all at once, probably 15 of the 36 Ks came up then, including my biggun. Salmon bellies worked well but...

    There's a Nor'easter on the way . . .

Like most new sites, navigation takes some time but doable. Ive been perusing the NJ reports and its evident the Zone Writers know their stuff! The detailed info by inshore region is accurate to the point where some folks might call it spot-burning, I call it HELPFUL !!

    "Keeping" the faith

"Keeping" the faith" After boating 50+ shorts this morning I said to Henry that our short:keeper ratio this week is now 125:0 ! He said keep the faith, I replied I'd rather keep the fluke. Captain was right and was promptly rewarded with 23"er and another just smaller. We got 4 Ks today in the...

    It ain't always about keepers

Had a memorable day yesterday, fluke fishing the river. The two of us must've had 75 fluke today in 2.5 hours. No keepers but easily one of the best days this year. We didn't keep count but averaging 6-8 keepers each drift for 12 or so drifts, it was an action packed morning. From upriver down...

    NJ Sea Bassing

In a word - - disappointing. Season opened as usual on May 15th, but cold water shut off their inshore migration until June. On the NJ reefs you now catch them jigging when on sandeels, but when fishing the mussel beds put the jigs away, all they want is clams. Limit goes from 10 to one on...

"You ain't gonna get a hit if u use that rod!"

Positivity + 60 degree water = Fluke. 3 guys, 3 hours, 50 shorts. Spearing is the ticket. Boats next to us couldn't get a bite,,, they want the meat right now..

    Flounder

Romer/Raritan.... nope. I moved from LI to NJ 40 years ago and have not caught em locally since 1987 Seems like most NY Bight flounder are now caught in the Mud Hole. But targeting them in 200' depths ain't worth it. For that matter fishing for Ling in Mud Hole is bleeech!
