    NJ Sea Bassing

In a word - - disappointing. Season opened as usual on May 15th, but cold water shut off their inshore migration until June. On the NJ reefs you now catch them jigging when on sandeels, but when fishing the mussel beds put the jigs away, all they want is clams. Limit goes from 10 to one on...

    Flounder

Romer/Raritan.... nope. I moved from LI to NJ 40 years ago and have not caught em locally since 1987 Seems like most NY Bight flounder are now caught in the Mud Hole. But targeting them in 200' depths ain't worth it. For that matter fishing for Ling in Mud Hole is bleeech!

Fluke/Black Sea Bass state regs may not be approved federally b4 seasons start!!

Due to staffing shortages Dept of Commerce head Howard Lutnick has still not approved regs that effect our whole coast. Some states need this in place for Friday May 1st. NJ and Maryland have urgently escalated this looming mess that will impose fed coastwide measures in lieu of what the...

    They're heeeeere :-)

Hopefully it's a sign of good things to come. I've been fishing the backwaters of Central NJ and today was the first day that the fluke showed up. My first cast was a 19"er and numerous shorts followed. I suck at selfies. Earlier this week it was all schoolie Stripers in the same spot. Let...

    Sad news for bass

Sewage spill in Potomac River Well if the biomass and spawn was way off in the Potomac, now it is a disaster. They say millions of gallons of sewage have spilled into the river. March and April are prime months for spawing there .I hope it doesn't ruin their spawning season and kill a bunch of...

Sea Bass Update from ASMFC, optimism for NY?

The press release said 20% coastwide increase for seabass. The fine print said the regional increases will be determined by the Board. That decision was 27% to the northern sector (NY CT RI MA), 16.5% southern (DE MD VA NC) and the rest to NJ (~ 15-17%). State proposals to ASMFC due in March...

Big Hearings Regarding Recreational Scup, BSB, Bluefish & Fluke coming up!! Make your voice heard!!

The difference in NY/NJ fluke bag limits began in 2017 when NJ was penalized 1 fluke when NJ went out of compliance with ASFMC guidelines. NJ 'knew' there would be penalties but never a closure. In 2026 NJ Fluke bag limit is 3, while NY is four. However NJ still benefits from smaller legal...
