Highly Migratory Species and Offshore Wind

Why? Offshore Wind Farms are DEFINITELY coming to the Gulf of Maine. The Federal Govt wants to know how many of us are fishing in the Gulf of Maine and – in particular - WHERE we fish for bluefin. NO EXCUSES. The Govt needs to hear from all of us. They say that they want to avoid placing offshore wind farms where there is a lot of fishing effort. Pass this on to your friends. If you need any help explaining where you fish, send a message through the survey document and someone will contact you and explain how this is done.

I applaud your efforts, Old Mud, and agree that anyone who fishes Tuna, or for that matter any other species in the GOM needs to make their voices heard as loudly as possible.

Stil I am very skeptical about the results. When they started the Sout Fork Wind Farm project between NY's east end and RI I went to several of the public comment sessions. I was stunned to find out they had almost no idea that Coxes Ledge is a very rich, traditional fishing ground for commercials and recreationals alike from several surrounding states. When I pulled out my navigation charts to show them where we fish, they all seemed surprised! Despite strong protests they are still planning to locate the turbines very close to some key locations.

I sure hope the folks up north have better results. Regardless of my skepticism you must try!!!

Mike, I agree about those Public comment sessions. They want your opinion but know their minds are already made up. Yes we will have wind power in the GOM. With or without our general consensus or approval. But the American Bluefin Association always tries to protect us as fishermen against these sort of things. They have helped the Tuna fishermen many times. That's why they have put this together.

So for the few minutes it took me to fill this out i feel at least someone is on my side. It is a lot better than the hundreds of meetings and hearings in my state and many others i have been to in the past . Much less money for fuel tolls and lodging to get nothing accomplished. Just still trying.
